  • Size and Composition: The photo must be 2x2 inches in size. This dimension is critical for ensuring that the photo fits the standard format used by U.S. immigration services. Within this frame, the head should measure between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches (22 mm and 35 mm) from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head, comprising 50% to 69% of the image's total height. This proportion is important to maintain consistency and clarity in identification.

  • Pose and Expression: The face should be directed straight at the camera to provide a full-frontal view. Both eyes must be open, and it’s important to maintain a neutral expression without exaggerated facial expressions. This straightforward pose ensures that your facial features are clearly visible and recognizable.

  • Attire, Hats, and Hair: It's advised to wear what you usually wear daily, maintaining a natural appearance. Hats or head coverings are generally not allowed unless they are worn for religious reasons. Even in such cases, they must not obscure any part of the face. Hair should also be arranged in a way that it does not cover the face.

  • Background and Quality: The background of the photo must be either white or off-white, providing a clear contrast to your facial features. The photo should be in color and taken with high-quality equipment to ensure clarity and proper color representation. It's important that the photo is not pixelated or blurry as it needs to represent your appearanceaccurately.

  • Recency: The photo should be recent, ideally taken within the last six months. This requirement ensures that the photo accurately reflects your current appearance, which is vital for identification purposes.

  • Eye Height: The photographer should ensure that your eye height is between 1 and 1/8 inches to 1 and 3/8 inches (28mm–35mm) from the bottom of the photo. This specification helps in maintaining a consistent eye level in all photos, aiding in facial recognition

Adhering to these specifications will ensure your application is not delayed or rejected due to non-compliant photos.
