What are the different types of Schengen visas?

The Schengen visa is a short-stay visa. It is meant for tourists who want to visit several countries in the Schengen area. All other types of visas, such as work permits or student visas, can be obtained from the authorities of that country.

There are different types of visas, depending on your travel needs. For example, there are types A, C, B, and D. Let's learn more about them:

  • Type A visas - These are also known as airport transit visas. Airport transit visas allow holders to stay in the international areas of an airport but not to leave the immigration area.
  • Type C visas - Short-stay visas allow the holder to stay in the entire Schengen area for up to 90 days per semester. These are the most popular types of visas. Type C visas, on the other hand, are subdivided into three types:
  • Single-entry - You may only enter the Schengen area once.
  • Double entry - You can only enter the Schengen area twice before the visa expires.
  • Multiple entries - You may enter and leave the Schengen area as often as you want during the validity of the visa. The total is calculated by adding the duration of each stay. On the other hand, some visas have limited territorial validity, but these are not as common. This type of visa is processed in specific cases, such as for humanitarian purposes. In this case, we have two types of visas:
  • Type B visas - Known as transit visas, these documents authorize holders to enter and move within the Schengen area. In practice, however, they are almost entirely replaced by Type C visas.
  • Type D visas - The long-stay visa is also called a residence permit. It allows you to live, study or work in the Schengen area for more than 90 days. Again, like type C, it may be single-entry or multiple-entry.

Best time to visit the Schengen area

Choosing the right time to travel will depend a lot on the activities you want to do because the Schengen Zone is a sum of several countries, each with its own climate. Considering this, it is mentioned that autumn and spring are the best travel times.

Regardless of the weather, Paris and Amsterdam are among the top destinations.

On the one hand, tourists visit Paris for many reasons, including its mix of fashion, romance, and fun. But, on the other hand, it is one of the most romantic destinations in Europe, being one of the favorite places to propose marriage or enjoy honeymoons.

This incredible metropolis breaks all expectations and surprises you with the magic of its streets and architectural designs. One of the main attractions is the Eiffel Tower, where you can climb to the top floor and observe the grandeur of the French capital.

You can also visit the Palace of Versailles, whose space is surrounded by fountains and represents one of the architectural masterpieces. Also, contemplate the sunset in the Montmartre district and stroll along the Avenue des Champs Elysees. Another destination of interest is Amsterdam. This metropolis is designed for pedestrians because wherever you walk, you will be mesmerized by the beauty of the water canals that cross it and the houses with wonderful facades. In addition, this destination is environmentally friendly, and using bicycles to tour the city is one of the tourist sports.

It is one of the most scenic destinations in the Schengen Zone. Experience nature and its beautiful gardens with tulip flowers, and have a picnic while sharing pleasant company.

Another reason to visit Amsterdam is to visit the museums. The Museum district has famous art galleries such as the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk Museum. And if you are interested in a place full of joy, check out the Flower Market.

COVID-19 requirements or restrictions

Each member state can decide whether to grant entry based on this recommendation. Before traveling, ensure you know the entry requirements of the country you plan to visit. It's essential to be fully vaccinated before you travel because many countries will deny entry to anyone who is not vaccinated.

The European Medical Association (EMA) has approved Comirnaty, Spikevax, and Vaxzevria by Pfizer-BioNTech and Janssen by Johnson & Johnson. Additionally, it has been accepted to authorize the entry of travelers with vaccines used in an emergency by the World Health Organization, such as Covishield and Sinopharm.

Please note that most of these countries use a different system than the one we use to identify areas at risk. As a result, travel warnings are now graded individually and not by region.
