Summary
  • How to renew your United States visa: Turkish citizens may renew their U.S. B1/B2 visa if it expired within the last 48 months.
  • Interview requirements: Many qualify for the Interview Waiver Program, skipping the in-person appointment.
  • Application process: All applications must go through the official United States Embassy website.

The B1/B2 visa renewal process allows Turkish citizens to maintain access to the United States for business or tourism.

While similar to the initial application, the renewal offers streamlined steps, especially for those eligible for the Interview Waiver Program.

Arizona Tourism Landscape

What is a B1/B2 Visa?

The B1/B2 visa is a nonimmigrant visa for individuals traveling to the U.S. temporarily for business (B1) - meetings, conferences, negotiations - or tourism (B2) - vacations, medical care, visiting relatives.

If your visa is nearing expiration or expired less than 48 months ago, you may be able to renew it without another interview.

Who is eligible for the U.S. B1/B2 Visa renewal?

To renew your U.S. B1/B2 visa from Turkey, you must:

  • Be applying for the same B1/B2 category.
  • Have a visa that expired within the last 48 months.
  • Have not been refused a U.S. visa or found ineligible.
  • Never overstayed or violated U.S. visa conditions.

Can I renew my U.S. Visa without an interview if I'm from Turkey?

To qualify for the Interview Waiver Program:

  • You must have been 14 or older when your last visa was issued.
  • Your previous visa must be in the same classification.
  • You must have a clean immigration record and no criminal background.

Anil B., recent applicant:

“The renewal process was much smoother than I expected. The interview waiver saved me so much time.”

U.S. B1/B2 Visa renewal: Required documents for Turkish citizens

You’ll need the following documents when renewing:

  • Valid passport (and all old passports with U.S. visas)
  • A recent passport-style photograph
  • Confirmation of the DS-160 form submission
  • Proof of ties to Turkey (employment, property, studies, etc.)
  • Financial proof (bank statements, salary slips)
  • Travel itinerary or invitation letter (optional)

Be thorough and truthful when completing your DS-160 online form. It forms the basis of your visa review.

💡 Femke Strietman, iVisa expert, adds:

"Provide multiple types of evidence showing strong ties to Turkey, such as work contracts, family responsibilities, or university enrollment."

U.S. B1/B2 Visa renewal process for Turkish citizens

Here’s how to renew your visa through the U.S. Embassy in Turkey:

Step Description
1 Complete the DS-160 Form online
2 Pay the $160 visa application fee online
3 Schedule an appointment or determine Interview Waiver eligibility via the U.S. Visa Information and Appointment Services
4 Prepare and submit all required documents (via mail or drop-off if waiver eligible)
5 Await processing and receive your passport with visa

The renewal process typically takes 2–3 weeks, but this may vary based on volume and case complexity.

Common pitfalls to avoid when renewing your U.S. Visa

  • Failing to prove strong ties to Turkey (e.g. job, home, school)
  • Providing inconsistent information compared to previous visa
  • Ignoring possible past violations or overstays (must be explained)

Even if you're applying under the Interview Waiver Program, always prepare as if an interview may be required.

💡 Femke Strietman, iVisa expert, recommends:

"Keep copies of all previous DS-160 forms and U.S. visas to ensure consistent application answers."
