Mexican citizens do not need a visa for short stays (up to 90 days) in the Netherlands for tourism, business, or family visits. This is because Mexico has a visa-waiver agreement with the Schengen Area. However, travelers must hold a passport valid for at least three months beyond their departure date. Starting in 2026, Mexican citizens will likely need to obtain an ETIAS travel authorization before arrival.

The ETIAS system has not launched yet, so official processing times have not been confirmed. Most applications are expected to be processed quickly once the system becomes operational. Mexican citizens do not need an airport transit visa for the Netherlands if they remain in the international transit zone. Extensions are granted only in exceptional and unexpected circumstances, such as serious illness or flight cancellations due to force majeure. You must apply through the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). For non-emergencies, you must leave after 90 days and wait another 90 days before re-entering.
