Who it's for
Travelers whose nationality is not granted visa-free access to the Schengen Area and whose trip centers on Norway. You apply to the Norwegian authorities when Norway is your main destination, or your first country of entry when you are spending equal time in several Schengen states.
Permitted activities
Tourism, business meetings and conferences, visiting family and friends, and transit through the Schengen Area. Working and settling in Norway are not permitted, and a stay for those purposes needs a different national visa.
Where it's valid
A short-stay Schengen visa is recognized across the whole Schengen Area, not just Norway. Once you are admitted you can move between member states without a fresh visa for each one, within the limits shown on the sticker.
Delivery format
This is an embassy visa, printed as a sticker inside your passport. It is not an electronic document, so you have to attend an appointment in person to give fingerprints and a photo, and your passport is handed over while the file is decided.
Good to know
Every traveler needs their own application and their own sticker, infants included, and no consulate processes a family as a single file. If you gave fingerprints for a Schengen visa fairly recently they can often be reused, which is what decides whether your appointment is a formality or a full biometric visit.
Validity
Valid for 90 days

  • Too pricey for two sheets of paper. I wished it is cheaper. Book directly through the airline and they give you 72 hours before departure to cancel.

Norway visa FAQs

Quick answers to the most common questions about the Norway Schengen Visa.

Still have questions?

Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.

Do I need a Norway Schengen Visa?

If your nationality requires a visa to enter Norway and is not on the visa-free list, you’ll need a Schengen Visa to enter Norway and all other Schengen member states for tourism or business.

Can I apply for a Norway Schengen Visa online?

While you can start the process and fill out the application form online through iVisa, the Schengen rules require you to attend an in-person appointment for biometric collection (fingerprints and photo) and to submit your physical documents at a consulate or visa center.

How will I receive the Norway Schengen Visa?

After the Norwegian authorities process your application, you will receive your passport back with the visa sticker attached, ready for your trip. You can also find a copy of your Schengen Visa confirmation in your iVisa dashboard if applied through us.

How long can I stay in Norway?

The standard short-stay visa (Type C) allows you to stay for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period in the Schengen Area. This applies to the entire Schengen Zone, not just Norway. If you have a multiple-entry visa, you must still adhere to the 90/180-day rule.

Can I extend my stay in Norway?

Schengen Visa extensions are rarely granted. You can generally only extend your visa in cases of force majeure (e.g., natural disasters or flight cancellations), humanitarian reasons, or serious personal reasons that prevent you from leaving. You must apply at the local Foreigners' Authority before your visa expires.

What is the processing time of a Norway Schengen Visa?

The standard processing time is 15 calendar days from the moment your application reaches the Norwegian Consulate. However, it can take up to 45 days during peak seasons or if additional document verification is required. We recommend applying at least 2 months before your trip.

Do children/minors need a Norway Schengen Visa?

Yes. Every traveler, including infants and minors, requires their own visa. For minors, the application must be signed by both parents/legal guardians, and a birth certificate must be provided along with a notarized travel consent form if the child is traveling alone or with only one parent. You can use iVisa’s "Add another person" feature to easily manage applications for the whole family in one session, saving time and effort.

What is the difference between a Schengen Visa and ETIAS?

The Schengen Visa is for travelers who are not visa-exempt. The ETIAS (launching late 2026) is a digital travel authorization for citizens of visa-exempt countries (like the US, UK, and Canada). If you currently need a visa to enter Norway, you will continue to need a Schengen Visa.
