Filipino visa policy for Canadian citizens

Canadian citizens do not currently need a visa to visit the Philippines for short stays of up to 30 days for tourism or business. Travelers can extend this stay for an additional 29 days at any Bureau of Immigration office once in the country.

Canadian travelers need one Philippine entry document:

Philippines eTravel registration: A mandatory digital travel system for all inbound travelers. You must register within 72 hours of arrival to receive a QR code that replaces the paper arrival and health declaration cards.

General Philippines entry requirements for Canadian travelers are:

  • Canadian passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended departure date
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket to the country of origin or next destination
  • Evidence of sufficient financial funds for the duration of the stay
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or residential address)
  • Other supporting documents, depending on purpose/situation (e.g., business invitation letter)

Frequently asked questions about getting the Philippines visa with a Canada passport

No. Canadian citizens can enter the Philippines visa-free for tourism or business for up to 30 days. Upon arrival, you’ll receive an entry stamp in your passport. You must ensure your Canadian passport is valid for at least six months beyond your stay and that you have a confirmed onward or return ticket.

If you wish to stay longer, you must apply for a visa extension at any Bureau of Immigration (BI) office in the Philippines. The first extension is typically for 29 days (bringing your total stay to 59 days). Subsequent extensions can be for one, two, or six months (via the Long-Stay Visitor Visa Extension). Canadian citizens can stay for a cumulative maximum of 36 months as tourists before they must leave the country.

Former Filipino citizens (now naturalized Canadians) and their immediate family members (Canadian spouse and children) can stay in the Philippines visa-free for one year. To qualify, the family must travel together and present proof of relationship and former citizenship (such as an old Philippine passport or PSA birth certificate) to the immigration officer at the port of entry.

No. You cannot legally work in the Philippines on a tourist visa. This includes local employment and long-term remote work for a Philippine-based entity. To work legally, you must secure an Alien Employment Permit (AEP) and a 9(g) Pre-arranged Employee Visa. Engaging in paid work without the correct visa can lead to immediate deportation and a permanent ban on re-entry.

Overstaying is a serious violation. You’ll be required to pay a fine of 500 PHP per month plus additional processing fees before you can leave. If the overstay is significant (usually over 12 months) or if you fail to settle the fees, you may face detention, deportation, and blacklisting, which prevents you from returning to the Philippines in the future.
