How long can I stay in Saudi Arabia with the ETA?
You can stay in Saudi Arabia for up to 180 days in total across the ETA's whole 2-year validity, not per entry and not per year. The ETA allows multiple entries, so you can use those days across several trips rather than all at once. Keep track of the total number of days you spend in Saudi Arabia across your visits: the 180 days do not reset after twelve months, so once they are used the ETA cannot be used again even while it is still valid.
Can I use the ETA for Hajj & Umrah?
You can use the Saudi Arabia ETA to perform Umrah outside the Hajj season. You cannot use it for Hajj. If you're traveling for Hajj, you'll need a dedicated Hajj visa and must follow Saudi Arabia's Hajj requirements. Check your travel dates carefully if you're planning Umrah close to the Hajj season.
Can I work or study long term on the ETA?
No. The Saudi Arabia ETA allows short-term study, but it cannot be used for long-term study, employment, or residence. You'll need the appropriate Saudi visa for these purposes instead.
Do children need their own ETA?
Yes. Every traveler, including babies and children, needs their own Saudi Arabia ETA and must travel on their own valid passport. A parent or guardian can complete the application on the child’s behalf.
Do I need the ETA to transit through Saudi Arabia?
No, not if you remain in the international transit area. If you need to leave the international transit area and pass through immigration during your connection, you'll need a valid ETA or another appropriate Saudi entry document.
Can I get the ETA on arrival?
No. You must apply for and receive your Saudi Arabia ETA online before you travel. It is not issued on arrival in Saudi Arabia.
Can I extend the ETA once I am in Saudi Arabia?
No. The Saudi Arabia ETA cannot be extended, and you must leave Saudi Arabia before you reach your permitted stay limit — overstaying breaches Saudi immigration rules. For a later trip, you can reuse the same ETA while it remains valid; once you have used the full 180-day allowance, you cannot re-enter on it at all, because the allowance covers the ETA's entire 2-year validity and does not reset.
Do I need a sponsor or an invitation letter?
No. You do not need a Saudi sponsor or invitation letter to apply for the ETA. You can apply online before you travel, provided you meet the eligibility and application requirements.
What is the difference between the ETA and the Electronic Visa Waiver?
The Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW) was a single-entry authorization that UK travelers had to apply for before each trip. It was discontinued on July 1, 2026 and replaced by the Saudi Arabia ETA, which allows multiple entries across a 2-year validity. If you used the EVW in the past, apply for the ETA for your next trip.
