Spanish visa policy for Peruvian citizens

Peruvian citizens do not currently need a visa to visit Spain for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism or business. However, once the new travel authorization system is operational, Peruvian travelers will need to obtain an ETIAS authorization before entering Spain or any other Schengen Area country. The system is currently expected to be fully implemented by the end of 2026.

Peruvians will need one Spanish entry document:

  • ETIAS for Spain: A mandatory online travel authorization for visa-exempt travelers visiting the Schengen Area. Once implemented, it will allow Peruvian citizens to enter Spain for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism, business, or transit.

General Spain entry requirements for Peruvian travelers are:

  • Peru passport valid for at least six months
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel reservation or invitation letter)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of the stay
  • Travel insurance covering at least €30,000 in medical and repatriation costs
  • Travel itinerary or purpose of visit
  • Other supporting documents, depending on purpose/situation

Frequently asked questions about getting the Spain visa with a Peru passport

Peruvian citizens do not need a visa for Spain for short-term stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. This exemption applies to tourism, business, and family visits. However, starting in late 2026, travelers will be required to obtain an ETIAS authorization before departure. Your passport must remain valid for at least three months after your intended exit.

The ETIAS system has not launched yet, so official processing times have not been confirmed. Most applications are expected to be processed quickly once the system becomes operational. With iVisa, you can apply for the ETIAS for Spain online and receive expert guidance throughout the process.

Peruvian nationals can stay in Spain for up to 90 days within any 180-day period without a visa for tourism or business. For stays exceeding 90 days, such as for work or long-term study, a national visa must be obtained. Starting in late 2026, an ETIAS authorization will be required.

Peruvian citizens do not need a visa to transit through Spanish airports if they remain in the international transit area. However, if you must clear border control to change terminals or collect luggage, the 90-day visa-free rule applies. Starting late 2026, an ETIAS authorization will be required.

Peruvian nationals cannot extend a standard 90-day visa-free stay for general tourism. Extensions are granted only for exceptional circumstances, such as medical emergencies, force majeure, or humanitarian reasons. You must apply at a local Oficina de Extranjería before your initial stay expires.
