If anything defines Barbados, it’s that it is a Caribbean island with many beaches, it has a city steeped in British colonial history, and abundant rum to enjoy on any occasion. As you will notice, this country is an earthly paradise for lovers of a warm climate and crystal clear waters with white sands. Planning a trip to this destination isn’t complicated if you consider some recommendations and you don’t forget to apply for your Barbados ED Card. The Barbados ED Card is an online document that will allow you to enter the country easily, so you shouldn’t forget it. Besides that, simply don’t forget to pack the usual: passport, plane ticket, and enough money for your stay. Aside from that, you won’t need many things to visit Barbados, unless you’re not a visa-exempt country, of course. Barbados is a Caribbean island that was known as an independent nation of the British Commonwealth. Bridgetown, the capital city, is a cruise port with colonial buildings and the Nidhe Israel Synagogue, which tends to be an attractive spot for many tourists. This town is also popular for the 17th century Garrison Racecourse and the National Heroes Square, which borders the Constitution River. Near this place, you can view the Nidhe Israel Synagogue and its museum, which exhibits the island's Jewish history. If you prefer to find something more related to the ocean lifestyle, then you can explore Carlisle Bay, a place that has six wreck dive sites, Browne's Beach, and a yacht club. A must-do when you arrive in Barbados is Harrison's Cave, a very popular tourist attraction on this small Caribbean island. You can access it underground on a special tram. These caves were first recorded in historical documents from 1795, and for almost 200 years they were forgotten. It wasn’t until 1976 when Danish spelunker Ole Sørensen, along with an expert from Barbados, Tony Mason, rediscovered the caves. In 1981 the locals decided to turn it into a tourist attraction. The Abbey of San Nicolás is another place that you cannot forget. This construction is located in Saint Peter, and it functions as a plantation house, museum, and rum distillery. Colonel Benjamin Berringer built this house in 1658, and until now it was considered one of only three genuine Jacobean mansions in the Western Hemisphere. You’ll fall in love with this place thanks to its unique architecture and cozy garden, which is an excellent point to relax, taste wine, and also get to know more about Barbadian history. The essential vibe in Barbados is the beach atmosphere. If you want to enjoy crystal clear waters that sparkle in the sunlight, then start your route with Carlisle Bay, a small natural harbor in the southwest region of the island. It’s part of Bridgetown and that’s why it’s usually easy to access it. Carlisle Bay is a very popular place on the island for diving, especially with its small marine park that also functions as a museum to observe many relics, such as anchors and cannonballs. Fun fact, you can also see several ships at the bottom of its waters. The beaches of this place are ideal to relax and enjoy the Caribbean in all its splendor. You can take a weekend away and appreciate the sea with a piña colada without remorse. Of course, don’t forget the sunscreen to protect your skin. If you want to continue getting to know the nature of Barbados, don't forget to visit the Animal Flower Cave. Located in the cliffs of North Point, Saint Lucy, this cave is the only accessible solitary sea cave on the island. It is positioned two meters above the high tide mark, although it’s believed that it was formed at sea level (Barbados is rising at the not-so-alarming rate of 1 inch every 1000 years). From these caves, you can appreciate the Atlantic ocean and will be fascinated by the marine nature and the beauty of the deep-turquoise waters that surround the place. You can also explore the 6 acre Andromeda Botanical Garden, which is very close to Saint Joseph Parish. This garden is a member of the Botanic Gardens Conservation International. In it, you can appreciate a great variety of exotic flowers with bright colors, as well as a green environment that will instantly relax you. It’s ideal if you want to spend a quiet afternoon away from the vibrant rhythms of the city. Speaking of nature, you can also learn more about Barbados wildlife at the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, which will allow you to meet different species of monkeys, birds, and other mammals and reptiles of the place. As you may know, Barbados was once a British colony, so afternoon tea is a common pastime. For this reason, you can relax with a cup of tea and some sandwiches in the afternoon, especially in the cafes that surround places such as Hunte's Gardens, ideal for spending a calm afternoon. But if the beaches are still your favorite thing, then you can continue exploring several of these on the island. An example is Bottom Bay, which has beautiful waters of a clear and intense blue, as well as soft sands to relax to the maximum. You can also explore Paynes Bay, or the "Platinum Coast," on the west coast. Many local residents believe that it’s one of the beaches on the island with the best natural pools, both for its calm waters in the Caribbean and for the colorful neighborhood. In recent years, Paynes Bay has undergone significant development, so it’s not difficult to enjoy many things in this place besides beautiful beaches. For example, you can spend the night in a bar, or try delicious food in nearby restaurants. The food in Barbados is similar to that of other Caribbean countries, so you can enjoy many dishes based on seafood. Also, there’s a lot of influence from British cuisine, but with an extra spice thanks to the virtues of the island. In this place, you cannot forget to try the tamarind balls, pudding and pickled pork, and dishes made with flying fish. Yes, on this island you can find the famous flying fish! You should also try Mabí, a drink made from tree bark, and of course, a lot of cocktails made with rum. If you want to enjoy this country, don’t forget to apply for your Barbados ED Card with This document is necessary to enter this nation, so be sure to have it on hand before landing at the airport. The Barbados ED Card is obligatory for every foreign citizen. Some travelers will also need a paper visa. To check what documents you could need to visit Barbados, don’t forget to use our visa checker tool on our webpage. Nevertheless, we can say that the Barbados ED Card must be one of the most requested, so we recommend you to apply for it once you decide to plan your trip to Barbados.
