iVisa does not recommend that you travel to Burkina Faso. Traveling there is discouraged ever since a string of kidnappings and several terrorist attacks, namely the one in March 2018. If, however, you decide to go to Burkina Faso, we advise extreme caution and perhaps hiring a tour guide.
Until quite recently, Burkina Faso has been a very welcoming and safe place. Not many tourists visit, but the ones who do thoroughly enjoy their experience. This small West African country has a beautiful landscape, fascinating culture, and the traditional music is totally unique.
Before planning a trip to Burkina Faso, you need to make sure that you get a visa. The visa policy of Burkina Faso is surprisingly clear: there are three categories of travelers. The first category consists of people who come from visa-exempt countries (there are 18 of them), and their citizens can stay in Burkina Faso for up to 90 days. Although be aware that the length of stay permitted varies depending on your nationality.
The second category of travelers is represented by people who are eligible for a visa on arrival - 52 nationalities qualify for such a document. The Burkina Faso visa on arrival allows a 30-day stay. Keep in mind that the number of entries and the validity can affect the cost of the visa on arrival.
The third and final category includes people who are neither eligible for exemption nor a visa on arrival. As a result, all these nationalities must go to an embassy or a diplomatic mission of Burkina Faso.
To find out in which category you are in, you can consult the visa policy of Burkina Faso. However, to make things simpler, we developed the Visa Checker Tool found in the top right corner of this page. Simply choose your nationality and Burkina Faso as your destination and you will know in an instant your visa requirement status. Plus, if you do require a visa to enter Burkina Faso, a list of embassies will be provided for you so that you can contact the one that is nearest to you.
Unfortunately, iVisa does not process Burkina Faso visa applications at the moment, but we are preparing for it in the near future. Until then, we are more than happy to help. In fact, our free support service is at your disposal 24/7.
As far as the requirements are concerned, your best course of action is to contact the embassy or diplomatic mission you plan to visit for your in-person visa application process. We can give you some basic info, but the most reliable and up-to-date source of information will always be the embassy or the diplomatic mission itself. Nevertheless, we can assure that you need a passport valid for at least 6 months after your planned date of arrival in Burkina Faso. It must also contain at least one blank page.
Even if we cannot process a Burkina Faso visa application at the moment, we can assure that once Burkina Faso becomes a supported country on iVisa, we will make your visa application process as convenient as possible. Until then, we wish you the best of luck.
