U.S. passport holders traveling to Israel for tourism do not need a traditional visa in advance; however, they are now required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA-IL) prior to departure. The ETA-IL is a mandatory online pre-travel authorization, not a visa, and must be approved before boarding your flight. I’m traveling from Toronto to Israel next month and just got my ETA via email. I'm wondering if I need to print a hard copy of the ETA before I land in Jerusalem or if a digital version will be enough for entry. It’s my first time going to Israel since the ETA was introduced so I’m not sure what’s needed. Don’t want any surprises at the airport!

For your upcoming travel from Toronto to Israel, it's a good idea to print a hard copy of your ETA. Although a digital version might be acceptable, having a physical copy can help avoid any issues at the border where digital proofs might not be readily accessible or accepted. It’s best to come prepared with both for a smoother entry process at the airport.

I was filling out the ETA application in a rush and just realized that I put the wrong date for my birthday. I’ve already submitted the application and paid the visa fee. Is there a website where I can edit the document or is it simpler to just apply for a new ETA?

If you've submitted your Israel ETA application with incorrect information, such as a wrong birth date, you generally cannot edit the application once it's been submitted. You’ll likely need to apply for a new ETA altogether. Make sure all your details are accurate before submitting your application to avoid complications.

I have to be in Tel Aviv later this year and have decided to apply for my Israel ETA now before it becomes mandatory next year. I’m curious about whether this ETA will also allow me to enter nearby countries like Jordan or Egypt during my trip, or I still need separate visas.

The Israel ETA only permits entry into Israel. For travel to any other country during your trip, you'll need separate visas. Jordan and Egypt have their own visa requirements, and these can be obtained at border crossings, though it's best to arrange these ahead of time to make your travel plans easier.

Travel Registration is a service provided by the government. This service allows you to record information about your
upcoming trip abroad to the Department of State so it can be used to assist you in case of an emergency. People residing abroad can also get routine
information from their nearest embassy or consulate if registered.

Travelers from visa-exempt countries must apply for the ETA-IL before boarding a flight to Israel. This includes citizens of:
Europe: All EU countries + UK, Norway, Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Serbia, etc. Americas: United States, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, etc. Asia: Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Philippines, Hong Kong, UAE, etc. Africa: South Africa, Botswana, Mauritius, Eswatini, etc. Oceania: Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Micronesia, etc.
A total of over 100 countries are eligible. Citizens from non-eligible countries must apply for a traditional visa via an Israeli embassy.
The ETA is valid for 2 years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. It allows multiple entries with each stay limited to 90 days.
