Our Kenya visa application process

How to apply for your Kenya eTA with iVisa

1

Complete your online application

Answer a few simple questions, upload your documents, see when you’ll get your Kenya eTA, and pay using secure methods. You can save your progress and come back anytime. Most people finish in under 10 minutes.

We’ll guide you through any unclear questions during the application process.

2

We review your application

The Kenya eTA system is known for being difficult to navigate – your photo must be the right size, and your passport scan must be clear.

Don’t worry, we review your entire application to catch anything that might cause delays. Your application will be assigned to one of our experts, who will check for errors or missing information to make sure it’s ready to go. This review is quick but thorough.

3

We submit it for government processing

We’re not the Kenyan government, but we submit your application to them and are here for you along the way if there are any problems.

4

Get your Kenya eTA

We’ll email your approved eTA and let you know how to use it for your trip.

Kenya eTA

🛂 All visitors (except East African nationals) must apply for an eTA before traveling to Kenya for tourism, business, medical reasons, or family visits.

🔄 This replaces the former visa-on-arrival and eVisa system.

📅 It’s valid for 90 days from approval, and you can stay in the country for 30 days total.

⛔ The eTA is not extendable. You’ll need to leave the country, reapply, and re-enter.

What documents you’ll need to apply

  • 🛂 Passport scan: High-quality scan of your passport. It must have a validity of at least 6 months after arriving in Kenya and two blank pages for entry/exit stamps.
  • 🖼️ A photo of yourself: Taken within the last 3 months (this can be a selfie or passport photo).
  • ✈️ Airline/cruise booking confirmation: Arrival flight number and round-trip dates. Also, include any travel information on connecting flights (if applicable).
  • 🏨 Proof of accommodation: If staying in a hotel, include your booking confirmation. If staying with family or friends, include a letter of invitation and a copy of your host's ID card.
  • 📄 Travel purpose-related documents: Such as an invitation letter for business or a hospital letter.

Kenya visa policy

The Kenya visa policy offers a broad range of entry options depending on a traveler’s nationality, the purpose of their visit, and the intended duration of stay.

As of January 2024, all foreign nationals, except citizens of East African Community (EAC) countries, must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before traveling to Kenya. This includes visitors from countries that were previously visa-exempt or eligible for visas on arrival.

Those that are not eligible for the eTA can apply for specific Kenyan visas via the official immigration portal. These include the Tourist Visa for leisure travel, the Business Visa for commercial or professional engagements, and the Transit Visa for travelers connecting through Kenya for up to 72 hours.

Kenya no longer offers a visa on arrival service. All travel documents must be obtained through official platforms such as the Kenya eTA portal or the nearest Kenyan embassy or consulate. Travelers from yellow fever endemic regions must also present proof of vaccination on arrival.

Applicants are advised to consult the official Kenya Immigration website before planning their journey to ensure compliance with the most current regulations.

FAQs
