All you need to know about traveling to Laos with the Tourist eVisa!

Without a doubt, Laos is a hidden gem among South East Asian countries for being peaceful, with gentle and warm people, a pilgrimage to Buddha land, together with the cultural diversity, customs, cuisine, arts, festivals, etc.

It is definitely one of the highlight destinations of any visit, and the Tourist eVisa is the travel document you will need to explore the country.

What is the Laos Tourist eVisa?

The Laos Tourist eVisa is an official electronic travel authorization that simplifies the process of obtaining a visa to travel to this beautiful country.

With this visa, you can visit Laos for tourism purposes and stay in the country for up to 30 days. The online eVisa for Laos can be issued for a single entry visit to the country.

How to apply for the Laos Tourist eVisa?

The Laos Immigration Department has recently introduced a system that allows citizens from some nations the chance to apply for electronic visas instead of standard paper visas, which means that travelers from eligible nations don't need to visit an embassy or mail in their passport for review.

This new system makes both the application process and the entry process a lot easier since eVisa holders have a separate line when passing through customs. The eVisa application process is very simple and 100% online.

Once the application is submitted and accepted, the applicant will receive the eVisa approval letter, which must be printed and shown to the immigration officers upon arrival. Yes, it’s that simple.

Applying with iVisa

To apply with iVisa just follow these simple steps:

  • First, read all the information and fill out your details in the Laos Tourist eVisa application form. Then, choose the processing time that best suits your needs.

  • Second, double-check and verify the information you provided in the form, and then pay the iVisa processing fee (see below on the Calculator Tool for more information on service fees).

  • Third, attach any documents required and click on the submit button to apply for your Laos Tourist eVisa.

At iVisa we have been in the business of processing visa applications for many years and we have worked hard to improve all our services. We strive to make our processes quick and easy to follow. The idea that getting a visa is cumbersome is a thing of the past. With iVisa getting your Visa is as easy as opening a new email address.

But you don’t have to take our word for it. We recommend that you go over to our reviews section and read what our past customers have said about our services. We’re sure you’ll find them to your liking.

To take into account

Having the Laos Tourist eVisa does not provide an automatic right of entry into the country. An immigration officer at the port of entry may refuse entry to anyone who is unable to fulfill the immigration requirements, or that their presence in Laos would be contrary to national interests or security.

Questions?

Linda W, USA | July 9, 2024

I’ll be visiting friends in Laos for a couple of weeks. While I’m there, we plan to go to Bangkok for a festival. Is it possible to get a multiple-entry tourist visa for Laos? I don’t want to have to apply for a second Laos visa when we’re in Thailand.

Martin, iVisa | July 12, 2024

Currently, Laos does not offer a multiple-entry option for tourist visas obtained online (eVisa). If you plan to return to Laos after visiting Bangkok, you would need to apply for a new visa each time you re-enter Laos. For a multiple-entry visa, you would typically need to apply through a Lao embassy or consulate.

Brian F, Australia | July 16, 2024

I’ve heard great things about Luang Prabang and I’m looking forward to my trip to Laos next week. My plan is to stay for a month but I’d like the option to extend my stay for another month or two. How can I do this from Laos—online or through a local office?

Martin, iVisa | July 18, 2024

If you're in Laos and want to extend your stay beyond the initial period allowed by your visa, you can apply for an extension at the local immigration office. Extensions are typically granted for 30 days at a time. You'll need to visit the immigration office in person to handle this; it cannot be done online. Be sure to plan ahead as overstaying without an extension can lead to fines.

Mary C, UK | July 28, 2024

I’m from London and my current Laos tourist eVisa is set to expire in 30 days, but my flights back home are scheduled two days after my visa runs out. What’s the best course of action here? Should I try to extend my visa locally, or is there a grace period that might cover the extra days?

Cami, iVisa | July 30, 2024

If your visa is set to expire two days before your scheduled departure, you should definitely look into extending your visa locally to avoid overstaying. There's no formal grace period that would cover the extra days, so it's safer to apply for an extension. You can do this at the local immigration office in Laos, and it’s advisable to address this at least a week before your visa expires to avoid any complications at the airport or potential fines.

That’s ok, our customer service team has the solution for these types of issues. Our experts are available 24/7, so get in touch with them as soon as possible and they will help you complete your digital application.

Of course! Although rejections are rare, they could happen. iVisa makes sure to review every single document and correct any mistakes before the application is sent to the Laos immigration service. If for some reason it does get rejected, you will receive a full refund of the iVisa processing fee for the number of applications that got declined. Government fees aren’t included in this refund.

Apply again with iVisa and get your Laos Tourist eVisa soon.

First, you must ensure your passport is valid for more than 180 days from the moment you enter Laos. If your passport’s validity is less than 6 months, you need to renew it as soon as possible or apply for a new passport before getting your Laos Tourist eVisa.
It will depend on where your application stands. If it hasn’t been processed yet, it’s possible to make changes. As soon as you realize you made a mistake, connect with our customer service team to receive the help you need. If your application is already with the government, sometimes it is still possible to make changes; however, it will depend on each government’s policies. If you already received your visa, there is no possibility of changing your order.
Don’t worry! Sometimes emails don’t arrive or go straight to the spam folder. In this case, you can log into your iVisa account. As soon as your payment goes through, the platform creates an account on your behalf, where you can see the status of your application. Go to the iVisa website, log in, change the password the first time, and go through your order. You don’t need an email confirmation as you have your own account.
You should contact our customer team immediately to find the reason for the incorrect information. In case it’s iVisa's fault, you will receive a 100% refund of the iVisa processing fee, and our experts will process your visa again for free. Connect with us to see how we can help you in any other circumstance.
At iVisa, we understand that your time is valuable, and we strive to provide you with the fastest service possible. Our processing times are estimated based on the average duration it takes governments to process visa applications. These estimated times begin from the moment we receive all the correct information for your application until you receive your visa. While we work diligently to expedite the process, it’s important to note that we are reliant on the processing times set by the government authorities.
