visiting Libya

If you’re a UK passport holder planning a trip to Libya, applying for a visa is one of the first things to sort out. Luckily, you no longer need to visit an embassy or wait in long lines to get it done. The Libya eVisa makes it easier to get approval before departure.

Do British citizens need a visa for Libya?

Yes. British citizens must apply for a visa before entering Libya. There is no visa-on-arrival option for UK nationals.

The Libya eVisa is the preferred method for most travelers because it removes uncertainty at the border and lets you travel with confirmation already in hand. Once approved, it allows entry through Libya’s international airports, land borders, and seaports.

Key details about the Libya eVisa Who can apply for the Libya eVisa?
📅Validity: 30 days from the date of issue. This can be extended UK travelers who are visiting Libya for:
🔄Number of entries: Single entry 🛫Tourism: Exploring Libya’s historic sites and cultural attractions
Maximum duration of stay: Up to 30 days 📊Business: Attending meetings, conferences, or trade events
🏡Family visits: Reuniting with relatives or friends

Important note about Israeli passport stamps

Libya does not allow entry to travelers whose passports show any Israeli stamps or visas. This includes stamps from transit through Israeli airports or land borders.

Even if your Libya eVisa is approved, you could be turned away upon arrival. If your current passport has any Israeli markings, you may want to consider applying with a new passport before beginning the process.

What documents are required for a Libya eVisa?

  1. A UK passport that’s valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date in Libya. It should also have at least one blank page for visa stamps.

  2. A color passport photo taken against a white background. It should be recent (taken within the last six months).

  3. A copy of your sponsor’s passport if someone else is paying for your trip, such as a family member, employer, or host in Libya.

  4. A cover letter from your sponsor explaining who they are, why they are sponsoring your trip, and their contact details. This should match the details provided in your application.

  5. You must declare that you have at least 1,000 Libyan Dinars (approximately £160) to cover your stay.
