Malaysia Tourist eVisa

Purpose: The Malaysia eVisa (Electronic Visa) is an online visa that authorizes eligible foreign nationals to enter Malaysia for short-term visits. It’s primarily used for tourism and social visits.

When to apply: It’s recommended to apply at least two weeks in advance to avoid processing delays, especially when applying during peak travel times.

Duration and extensions The Malaysia Tourist eVisa allows stays of up to 30 days within a 90-day validity period. Extensions are not allowed.

Entries: The visa is issued as a single-entry document.

Ports of entry: Malaysia Tourist eVisa holders can enter through any official international border or port of entry.

Delivery format: An approved eVisa is electronically linked to your passport, but travelers are advised to carry a printed copy of the approval PDF when entering Malaysia.

Malaysia Digital Arrival Card

Purpose: The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) is an official online immigration declaration form that most foreign visitors must complete before entering Malaysia. It replaces the old paper arrival card and is designed to:

  • Collect essential traveler and itinerary information for immigration processing
  • Streamline and speed up arrival procedures at Malaysian borders
  • Enhance border security through pre-arrival data screening

When to apply: You should submit your MDAC within 3 days before your scheduled arrival in Malaysia.

Duration and extensions An MDAC is needed for every entry into Malaysia. It is not a visa and your maximum stay in the country will depend on your nationality or visa.

Delivery format: An approved MDAC is electronically linked to your passport, but travelers are advised to carry a printed copy of the approval PDF when entering Malaysia.

Malaysia DE Rantau Pass*

The DE Rantau Nomad Pass is Malaysia’s digital nomad visa, offering remote professionals and freelancers the chance to live and work legally in Malaysia for up to 12 months, with the option to renew.

Applicants must meet income requirements and can bring dependents. The program includes access to dedicated coworking hubs and a supportive nomad ecosystem across Malaysia.

Malaysia APEC Business Travel Card*

Business travelers who are citizens of APEC member economies may apply for an APEC Business Travel Card. The ABTC allows multiple short-term entries into Malaysia for up to 60 days per visit without applying for a separate visa. It also provides expedited border processing and access to fast-track lanes at airports.

The ABTC must be applied for in your home country. Malaysia honors cards that include the “MYS” code.

Malaysia Visa on Arrival (VoA)*

Malaysia offers a Visa on Arrival for a few nationalities arriving directly from Indonesia, Singapore, or Thailand, with a valid visa from one of those countries. The stay is limited to 14 days, and the visa cannot be extended.

To qualify, travelers must present a valid return ticket, proof of funds (at least USD 500), and pay a fee of RM 200 (~USD 45). This option is not available at all border crossings and should be used only when eligible.

Unfortunately, we don’t currently offer this visa*

Malaysia Transit Visa*

A transit visa may be required if you are not eligible for visa-free entry and need to pass through Malaysia to reach another destination. This is particularly applicable if your transit involves switching terminals or long layovers exceeding 24 hours.

Some nationalities may be eligible for the Transit Without Visa (TWOV) facility, but this remains suspended as of 2025. Check with Malaysian Immigration before making travel arrangements.

Unfortunately, we don’t currently offer this visa*

Malaysia visa policy

Many foreign nationals, including U.S., European Union, and UK citizens, may enter Malaysia visa-free for short stays. Countries without visa-free travel must obtain a visa, and certain countries, like Colombia, Nigeria, and Pakistan, can apply for an eVisa online.

All travelers entering Malaysia are required to complete a Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC).

General Malaysia visa requirements are:

  • Passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival and at least two blank pages
  • Recent photo
  • Valid email address
  • Travel details (such as flight information and accommodation address)

FAQs

The Malaysia Tourist eVisa is valid for 3 months from the date of issue, and it allows a single entry into the country. You can stay for a maximum of 30 consecutive days. If you leave and wish to return, you’ll need to apply for a new eVisa.
Standard processing takes around 1 to 3 business days, but faster options may be available depending on your application timing. It's recommended to apply at least one week before your planned departure. During peak seasons or holidays, delays can occur.
You’ll need to present your approved eVisa, a printed copy of your visa approval letter, your passport (valid for at least 6 months), a return ticket, and proof of accommodation. These documents are required by immigration officers upon arrival in Malaysia.

You’ll also need the MDAC - Malaysia Digital Arrival Form, a digital version of the paper customs form.
The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) is mandatory for all travelers (except Malaysian citizens and long-term pass holders). If you fail to complete it before arrival, you may be denied entry or delayed at immigration. Always submit it online within 3 days prior to arrival.
You can apply for your eVisa through the government or iVisa (or download our mobile app).

For other visas, you’ll need to complete the application process on the government platform, pay the visa fee, and in some cases, schedule an interview at a Malaysia embassy or consulate.

Supporting documents like your passport, photo, and purpose of travel are required.
No. You cannot change visa categories once inside Malaysia. For employment or study, you must apply for the appropriate visa type through the Malaysian embassy or consulate before entering.
No, the Tourist eVisa cannot be extended. If you want to stay longer, you must exit Malaysia before the 30 days expire and apply for a new visa from outside the country.
Overstaying can lead to visa cancellation, fines, or bans on future travel to Malaysia. It’s important to leave the country before your visa expires or apply for an extension if eligible.
No, the eVisa is not a sticker or stamp. It's issued electronically and must be printed out after approval. You’ll need to show a hard copy of the eVisa approval at immigration when you land in Malaysia.
  • Our team of iVisa experts will review your documents to make sure you have the best chance of being approved.
  • We then send it to the government for processing on your behalf.
  • Once your visa is approved, we’ll then email you your document.

In the meantime, download the iVisa app, so you can access your travel documents while you're on the go.
