You’ll be able to enjoy the traditional lifestyle of this charming country while you explore beautiful landscapes, sacred stupas, and Buddhist sights.

Below, you’ll find all the relevant information on how to complete Myanmar’s tourist visa application and all of the current COVID-19 travel requirements.

What is the Myanmar Tourist Visa?

The Myanmar Tourist eVisa is an official document allowing entry to Myanmar, issued electronically by the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

Visa applicants need to fill out an online form and upload the necessary documents. Once the visa is approved, they will receive it electronically via email.

This electronic visa system has been available for travelers since 1 September 2014. Foreign nationals can apply for a tourism or business visa, without ever stepping into a Myanmar embassy. This streamlined system cuts out the time wasted waiting in lines and costly processes that were previously in place.

The Myanmar electronic visa (eVisa) is also known as the eVisa Approval Letter, and it is a mandatory travel requirement for foreign nationals from qualifying countries who wish to visit the Republic of Myanmar for tourism purposes.

How do I apply for the Myanmar Tourist Visa online?

Applying for your tourist visa won’t take you longer than 15 minutes. You just need to fill out an online form with your personal information and the details of your trip.

After that, you’ll need to upload the supporting documents and pay the visa fee. Traveling with minors: Do children need to apply for a visa to enter Myanmar?

For minors over 7 years old, or for those who already have an individual passport, the parent or legal guardian must apply separately for their tourist visa.

Minors under 7 years old can travel to Myanmar without the need for an individual visa if they meet the following requirements:

  • The child must be accompanied by the parent/guardian.
  • The child must be included in the parent/guardian’s passport.
  • The details of the child must be included in the parent/guardian’s tourist visa.

In any case, you can easily add your child to your visa application process when you apply with iVisa.

Do I need a tourist Visa if I’m transiting through Myanmar?

Only if you wish to leave the transit area. If you remain in the transit area at the airport and have a valid passport and an onward ticket, then you won’t need to apply for a tourist or transit visa.

If you have a long layover or want to leave the transit area, then you should contact the nearest Myanmar embassy or consulate for further information about your visa needs.

What are the visa-exempt countries?

If you are a national from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, you don’t require a visa for a tourist visit of up to 14 days, if entering and departing from Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw International Airports.

If you would like to stay in Myanmar for over 14 days or wish to enter or exit from ANY of the land border checkpoints, then use our visa checker tool to see which visa you'll need based on your trip.
