4 min read
Updated on May 14, 2024

When you are getting ready to apply for a passport, you have to make sure you meet a few requirements. One of them is a passport photo (or multiple, depending on the case). To get a Bahamas passport, you need 3 identical pictures.

Photo specs

  • Size: 2 inches in height and 2 inches in width
  • Color: the photo should be in color on photo-quality paper
  • Head size and position: your head must not be at an angle, and you cannot take a portrait-style photo
  • Recency: as recent as possible but not older than 6 months. It has to reflect your current look
  • Background: white
  • Smile: no. Only neutral facial expressions are acceptable
  • Eyes: must be clearly visible
  • Your ears should be in the shot
  • Blurred photos will be rejected
  • Glasses: only if absolutely necessary and do not alter your look
  • Headgear: not accepted unless you cover your head for religious purposes
  • Dimensions and size (pixels): at least 600 dpi
  • Attire, clothing, dress code: must be in contrast with the background
  • Beard: only if you usually have one
  • Quantity needed in application: 3

Bahamas Passport Photos and Visa Photo Requirements – Rules, Guidelines, and Specifications

The specifications above, while accurate, may be a bit confusing, which is why we will expand on a few of them so that you can fully understand what it is that you have to do. An inadequate passport photo is one of the most common causes of rejection, which is why it is important to get it right.

  • When you are getting ready to take your passport photo, make sure it is against a white background. It cannot have any patterns, it cannot be of any other color, and it cannot have any shadows either.
  • When you are taking the passport photo, make sure to keep your head straight and facing the camera so that both halves of your head can be visible equally. You cannot tilt or rotate your head under any circumstances. Portrait-style photos are not permitted.
  • Choose a source of light that is neither too bright nor too dim. It must also come from the front so that the light does not create shadows or reflections on your face. That has the potential of distorting your facial features, which is not acceptable.
  • Smiling is not the only facial expression that is prohibited. You cannot raise your eyebrows, squint, or frown. It is best if you keep your face relaxed so that it can adopt the necessary neutral expression.
  • The eyes must be clearly visible. Look straight into the camera when you take the picture. If you wear prescription glasses, you can keep them for the photo, but only if the frames do not cover a large portion of your face and the lenses do not create any glare. Tinted glasses and sunglasses are not allowed in a passport photo.
  • You should not wear anything on your head for your passport photo. Nevertheless, if your religion does not permit you to unveil your head, you can keep it covered. Even so, your face must be clearly visible from the top of your forehead to the bottom of your chin.
  • If your everyday look includes a beard, you can keep it for the passport photo. But if you want to shave it off, however, make sure to do it before you have your passport photo taken. The picture must represent your current look.

Rules and Requirements for Babies, Infants, and Newborn Passport and Visa Photos

Children of all ages require their own individual passport and visa, which is why they need a passport photo as well. There are no special particularities when it comes to children’s photos, although it is accepted that the head of a child covers a smaller portion of the picture than that of an adult. Here are some tips you should remember when taking a passport photo of a child:

  • When you take the passport photo of a newborn, the hands of the parent cannot be seen in the picture. Only the baby must be visible.
  • If you decide to use a car seat, like many parents do, make sure to cover the backrest with a white sheet because the background rules still apply.
  • When taking the picture from above while the child is on his/her back, place a white layer underneath.
  • The baby cannot have a pacifier in his/her mouth. Headwear needs to be removed as well.
  • The child should be awake during the photoshoot.
