What is the Spain Digital Nomad Visa?

  • The Spain Digital Nomad Visa lets you live in Spain as a resident while working remotely for a company or as self-employed, all for an employer based outside of Spain, using only online communication.

If you're self-employed, you can work for a company in Spain, but it shouldn't exceed 20% of your total work. Additionally, you need either an undergraduate or postgraduate degree from a reputable university, college, or business school, or a minimum of 3 years of work experience in your field.

To apply for this visa, make sure your passport remains valid for at least 6 months after the visa expiration and has 2 blank pages.

How long is the Spain Digital Nomad Visa valid for?

This visa is valid for 1 year. After arriving, you can apply for a three-year permit, extendable to five years in total.

What can I do with the Spain Digital Nomad Visa?

With this visa, you’re allowed to;

  • Work in Spain for a company located outside of Spain.
  • Reside in the country for only 1 year.

What can’t I do with the Spain Digital Nomad Visa?

Keep in mind that you can’t;

  • Work for a Spanish company.
  • Work for longer than 1 year.

If you’re wanting to work remotely in Spain, you’ll have to apply for a digital nomad visa.

To qualify, you need to:

  • Have at least one year of remote work experience.
  • Be self-employed with global clients from various online sources outside Spain.

  • Maintain a clear criminal record and demonstrate eligibility for entry into Spain.

  5. Proof of residence.
  6. Identity and capacity proof of representative (only applicable if the visa is requested through a representative).
  7. Proof of payment for the Visa fee.
  8. Health insurance certificate from an authorized company, covering all risks insured by the Spanish public health system.
  9. Remote work authorization for employed, or contractual details for self-employed.
  10. Certificate from Mercantile Registry: A document with important information about a company, such as when it was officially formed, where it is located, who the directors are, and other important details.
  11. Responsible declaration committing to social security obligations.
  12. For employed: Proof of application for registration of the company in the Spanish Social Security and proof of the affiliation of the worker to the Social Security.
  13. For self-employed: proof of affiliation to RETA.
  14. Documentation proving economic resources: a) Teleworker: Monthly amount equivalent to 200% of the minimum interprofessional wage (SMI). b) Family members: At least 75% of SMI for the first person and 25% for each additional member.
  15. Proof of degree or professional experience.
  16. If it's unclear whether your vocational training degree is recognized in Spain, you may need to check with the education authorities to confirm its equivalence. This ensures that your qualification meets the standards set by the Spanish education system.
