Learn More: Travel Authorization

Taiwan is an East Asian country with a lot to offer tourists. It's a small territory, but it has incredible food, affordable prices to travel around, beaches to relax on, and mountains to climb. However, the National Immigration Agency requires a visa or Travel Authorization to explore Taiwan.

The advantage of the Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate is that travelers can apply online. It takes only a few clicks to fill out the online application, and you will receive the document in your email. No need to visit an embassy. Easy, right?

This article will show you all the application details and requirements for foreign passport holders.

What is the Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate?

The National Immigration Agency developed the Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate to make it easier for some nationals to visit Taiwan. Also known as the ROC Travel Authorization Certificate, the document works as a Multiple Entry visa, valid for 90 days after arrival. Among the requirements is that you must already have other visas issued.

It's pretty easy to apply online. The traveler only has to provide some personal and travel details, and after processing, the document arrives by email. The applicant can count on iVisa support throughout the entire process.

Valid regular passports are necessary for the online application. The traveler cannot have immigration irregularities or law violations. Also, people holding temporary, emergency, or informal passports, an issued Alien Resident Certificate, or travel documents other than a passport cannot submit online applications.

Be aware that the Travel Authorization Certificate is required for arrival and departure immigration inspection in Taiwan.

Who can apply for a Travel Authorization Certificate?

The National Immigration Agency allows nationals of Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam to apply online for a Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate (ROC Travel Authorization Certificate).

The applicant must have at least one of the following documents issued by Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, any of the Schengen countries, the United Kingdom, or the United States: a valid resident or permanent resident card, or a valid entry visa (it may be an electronic visa).

A Taiwan resident card, entry visa, or alien resident certificate issued that has expired less than 10 years before the date of arrival in Taiwan is also acceptable. Another requirement is that the applicant has never been employed as a blue-collar worker in Taiwan.

Countries that are eligible to apply on the iVisa platform

The following nationalities can apply for the Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate with iVisa in a few clicks:

India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia.

How long is the Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate valid?

The Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate allows multiple entries into the country during the 90 days after arrival validity period. The maximum stay per entry is 14 days Per Entry, starting the day after arrival.

Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate: Application Process Requirements

The National Immigration Agency has some requirements for travelers to get a Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate. You must provide the following information to apply online for this document:

  • Valid passport - The applicant's passport must have remaining validity of at least six months starting from the date of arrival in Taiwan.

  • Onward or return ticket - It can be either an airline or ferry ticket.

  • Email address

  • Payment method - Credit or debit card for payment of service fees.

Do I need a document if I'm transiting through Taiwan?

No, the National Immigration Agency won't require the Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate if you stay in the airport transit area. But if you have a long stopover, applying for it and enjoying some of Taiwan's amazing attractions can be a good idea.

COVID-19 requirements or restrictions

Does Taiwan have COVID-19 Testing Requirements?

No, it doesn’t. Taiwan has lifted all COVID-19 testing requirements for travelers.

Does Taiwan have COVID-19 Vaccine Requirements?

No, according to the Bureau of Consular Affairs, you don't need to be vaccinated to enter the country. COVID-19 vaccination passports are not mandatory for entry.

Is There Quarantine on Arrival?

No, there isn’t. The 3+4 quarantine-on-entry protocol has been replaced by the 7-day Self-Initiated Epidemic Prevention (SEP) policy. You can read more details here.

What is the difference between the Taiwan Travel Authorization and Taiwan eVisa?
