Taiwanese visa policy for Vietnamese citizens

Vietnamese citizens usually need a visa to visit Taiwan, unless they qualify for visa-free entry through a Travel Authorization Certificate. If they don't qualify, they'll need to apply for a Taiwan Visitor Visa through a Taiwan embassy or consulate.

iVisa offers one Taiwan entry document for Vietnamese travelers:

  • Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate (TAC): This document allows Vietnamese citizens a visa-free entry to Taiwan for 14 days if they hold a valid visa of residence permit from an eligible country (for example, from the US, Canada, UK, Japan, or Schengen).

  • Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC): A mandatory entry document to be submitted digitally before arrival, which collects key details such as your passport information, contact details, trip purpose, and accommodation address in Taiwan.

General Taiwan visa requirements for Vietnamese travelers are:

  • Vietnam passport valid for at least six months
  • Passport-size photo
  • Confirmed round-trip flight ticket and accommodation reservation
  • Cover letter stating purpose and itinerary
  • Bank statements (recent 3 months)
  • Invitation letter (if applicable)

FAQs

Vietnamese citizens do not need a traditional visa if they qualify for the Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate (TAC) — a special travel authorization that allows entry without a visa under certain conditions. If they don't meet the TAC criteria, they will need a regular visa.

If applying for the Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate (TAC) online, processing is typically very quick (often within a few business days). With iVisa, Vietnamese citizens can obtain their Taiwan travel authorization in as little as 7 days. If applying for a regular visa through the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO), processing time can range from several working days to a few weeks, depending on the type.

With an approved Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate, Vietnamese citizens can stay in Taiwan for up to 14 days per visit. The TAC is valid for multiple entries during its 90-day validity period.

The TAC is an online travel authorization that allows eligible Vietnamese citizens to enter Taiwan without a traditional visa, provided they hold qualifying visas or residence permits from countries like the US, Canada, UK, EU/Schengen, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, or South Korea, or have held a Taiwan visa/resident card within the last 10 years.

No. Vietnamese citizens must either have a qualifying TAC or obtain a visa from the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) before travel. TAC eligibility is conditional; if they don't meet the criteria, a regular visa is required.

Extensions of stay beyond the 14 days granted under a TAC are generally not permitted — travelers should apply for a longer-stay visa if they plan to stay beyond the initial period.

Taiwanese immigration can refuse entry if the traveler cannot demonstrate clear intent (e.g., tourism/business), lacks a return/onward ticket, fails to show funds of accommodation, of if there’s a criminal record of previous overstays.
