I was filling out the arrival card form on the website and when I uploaded the photo of my passport, it automatically filled out the names but in the wrong order and I can’t change it. Can you help?

Hello Angelica, we're sorry you’re having issues filling out your details on the government website. This issue often happens with the automatic uploading system through the government.

You should correct the entry to match what they are asking for (given name followed by surname). If you can’t change it anymore, we recommend applying for a new TWAC and filling out the details manually.

We’re also happy to help if you’re uncertain. For a small fee, our experts upload all information on your behalf, double-check for errors, and make sure you have peace of mind before you go.

Is this a visa or do I still need a visa for Taiwan on top of this document? I’m from the Netherlands.

Hi Linda, we get this question often, and we understand the different documentation for Taiwan can be confusing.

Let’s break it down for you:

  • As a Dutch passport holder, you don’t need a visa for Taiwan. This means that you can enter and stay in Taiwan for up to 90 days for tourism, business or transit.

  • However, you still need to register your Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) before departure. This is not a visa, but a replacement of the paper forms you used to fill out on the plane. It’s mandatory for all foreigners visiting Taiwan from October 1st, 2025.

It asks for some basic info such as where you’re staying and flight details, so the government can make sure that they know who is entering the country and when. If you have trouble filling it out on the government website for some reason, we’re happy to help with our simplified process.

  • For other nationalities that do require a visa for Taiwan, they need to both apply for the visa and the TWAC. They can easily apply for both documents in one go through our website or app.

Hi Sanjay, happy to help!

In regard to your question: no, the system automatically links your TWAC information to your passport. You do not need to present a printed confirmation at immigration, as officers can access your data by scanning your passport.

However, we always recommend keeping a copy of your confirmation email downloaded on your mobile device, like any travel document, in case there are technical issues upon arrival.

Enjoy your trip!

Why Register with the Embassy

Travel Registration is a service provided by the government. This service allows you to record information about your upcoming trip abroad to the Department of State so it can be used to assist you in case of an emergency. People residing abroad can also get routine information from their nearest embassy or consulate if registered.

Required Information to Apply

Once You Have Registered With Your Embassy Or Consulate, You Will Need To Update Your Data If:

  • your contact details change,
  • your civil status changes,
  • you are going back to your home country.

Questions?

All you need for your TWAC registration is your passport details, accommodation and flight information, a valid email address and phone number, and info about your occupation.

If you apply through iVisa, you’re asked to submit a copy of your passport so we can double-check your information for errors, to avoid delays and rejection.

Upon arrival in Taiwan, you’re asked to present your passport and visa (if applicable). Your passport will be verified in the TWAC system and if you have correctly registered, you can enter the country.

If you’ve made a mistake on your application, let us know immediately. We will help you correct the information or if that’s not possible anymore, register for a new TWAC.

When applying through iVisa, your information will be double-checked against your passport, so the chance for errors is minimal.

Even if you are only transiting through Taiwan, you are still required to complete an online arrival card.

All foreign travelers, except Taiwanese citizens and ARC holders, are required to complete and submit the TWAC before the scheduled arrival date.

Here are the differences between the various travel documents for Taiwan:

  • A Taiwan visa is an official entry permit issued by Taiwan’s embassies or consulates that allows travelers from non–visa-exempt countries to enter for purposes like tourism, business, or study.

  • A Taiwan Travel Authorization (Taiwan Travel Authorization Certificate) is an online entry approval for eligible travelers from certain countries who already hold valid visas from the U.S., Schengen Area, Japan, or similar — it’s faster and free compared to a traditional visa.

  • The Taiwan Arrival Card is not a visa but an online immigration form that all visitors, including those visa-exempt or with travel authorization, must complete before or upon arrival for recordkeeping and border control purposes.
