Which countries can apply for the DV Lottery?

Citizens who come from countries that don’t usually send many immigrants to the United States are chosen to increase the diversity of the immigrants that enter this country.

Please check our FAQ section below to understand which countries fall under this category and the terms and conditions under which you’ll be able to apply for the Diversity Visa Lottery Program.

As you can only apply once, our expert review service will ensure no mistakes in your application to increase your chances of being selected.

How can I apply for the DV Lottery Program?

To apply for this program you only need to fill out a simple online form that you can find on iVisa's page.

The sooner you apply, the sooner you’ll be able to correct any errors on your application form before the DV Lottery opens.

Once we make sure your application is correct, we will hold onto it until the DV Lottery Program starts in October. When it does, we’ll submit the form and email you the confirmation number.

Once you submit your application, you’ll be able to check its status in early May of the year following submission of your application. You must save your confirmation number so you’re able to see if you were selected or not.

You’ll also receive a preparation guide so you can get ready for the interview if you’re one of the randomly chosen winners.

How long does this process take?

Going through this process alone can take a long time since there are forms to fill out and many requirements to match to get the Diversity Visa. The winners from the lottery normally get a notification 7 months after their application.

In addition to that, waiting to receive an interview at the embassy can take up to 14 months. That is why you should apply as soon as you can!

Don’t worry! iVisa is here to save you time and effort to have an easy and stress-free application process.

Should I apply to the Diversity Visa Lottery Program outside or inside the United States?

The vast majority of people who are selected for the Diversity Visa aren’t in the United States and will apply for a green card through the U.S. consulate in their home country.

However, if you’re in the United States with temporary immigration status, you’re also able to apply for the Diversity Visa Lottery Program.

Are there any requirements to apply for the Diversity Visa Lottery?

Yes, apart from making sure your country is eligible, education is a major requirement.

You must have at least a high-school diploma or 2 years of work experience in the last 5 years that require a minimum of 2 years of training. This is determined by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Please note that you and your spouse ought to meet the same requirements as any other U.S. green card applicant.

As part of your DV lottery application, you must have a proper recent photo (taken within the past 6 months.) Thankfully iVisa can help you with that here!

Questions?

If you get an error while making your application, feel free to contact our group of experts who are here for you and will gladly help you solve the issue.
Each person may only participate once per year in the DV Lottery! If you submit more than one form, you will be automatically disqualified; so, if your application is canceled, you need to wait one year to apply again.
Travelers in transit through the United States require valid C-1 visas or already having a visitor B visa.
If you were born in a country that is excluded from participating in the United States DV Lottery you can claim chargeability to the country where your spouse was born. Likewise, you may be charged to the country of birth of your parents, provided that neither parent was resident of the ineligible country at the time of your birth. One example is that if you were born in India, a country that does not qualify, but your spouse was born in Thailand, you can claim Thailand as your country of birth (chargeability), then qualify to enter the Diversity Visa Program. To do this you must also include your spouse in your application.
The DV Lottery requires the principal applicant to have a US school diploma or the equivalent of education, or two years of qualifying work experience as defined under provisions of U.S. laws.
A married couple may each submit a DV Lottery application separately, and if either is selected, the other would be entitled to a permanent resident card. This increases your chances of winning.
No. Do not leave out your spouse and biological or legally adopted children under 21. All immediate family members must be included in your initial entry. Failure to do so will lead to automatic disqualification.
At iVisa, we understand that your time is valuable, and we strive to provide you with the fastest service possible. Our processing times are estimated based on the average duration it takes governments to process visa applications. These estimated times begin from the moment we receive all the correct information for your application until you receive your visa. While we work diligently to expedite the process, it’s important to note that we are reliant on the processing times set by the government authorities.
