Armenia visa FAQs
Quick answers to the most common questions about the Armenia Visitors Visa.
Still have questions?
Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.
What is the difference between the short-term and long-term Armenia Visitors Visa?
The short-term visitor visa allows a maximum stay of up to 21 days (within a 90-day validity window). The long-term visa allows a maximum stay of up to 120 days (within a 180-day validity window). Both are single-entry visas, so you must select the option that fits your travel plans upon application.
Can I extend my Visitors Visa while inside Armenia?
Yes. You can prolong your stay by applying for a visa extension for up to an additional 60 days. You must submit your extension request, passport, and proof of accommodation in person to the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Yerevan before your original visa expires.
Who requires an official invitation letter to get an Armenia Visitors Visa?
Nationals of most African nations and select Asian countries can't apply for a standard eVisa or Visa on Arrival independently. They require a local sponsor—such as a registered Armenian company, government agency, or relative—to submit a formalized invitation letter directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before they can apply at an embassy.
How does Armenia's visa waiver for residence-permit holders work?
From July 1, 2026 through July 1, 2027, citizens of 111 visa-required countries can enter Armenia visa-free for up to 180 days in a one-year period if they hold a valid residence permit issued by the United States, an EU or Schengen state, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Oman. A visa from those countries does not qualify — it must be a residence permit, held as a physical card or a sticker in your passport, and valid for at least 6 months from your entry date.
What are the penalties for overstaying a visa in Armenia?
Overstaying is an administrative offense. If you exceed your allowed stay, you won't be permitted to leave until you pay a cash fine ranging from 50,000 AMD to 100,000 AMD (approximately $125 to $250) at the border. Overstaying can also lead to entry bans or future visa denials.
Is the Armenia Visitors Visa valid for entry into neighboring Schengen or EU countries?
No. Armenia isn't a member of the European Union or the Schengen Zone. It maintains an entirely independent border and visa policy. An Armenian visa only grants you entry to the Republic of Armenia; traveling to neighboring countries like Georgia or Iran requires checking their separate entry requirements.
Do children/minors need their own Armenia Visitors Visa?
Yes. There aren't any age exemptions for this visa; every traveler, including infants, must have their own individual visa. However, minors under 18 are entirely exempt from paying the official government visa fee. You must still submit a separate online application and upload their passport bio-page.
Do I need a visa to transit in Armenia?
If you're remaining in the airport transit area for less than 48 hours without passing border control, you don't need a visa. However, if you plan to leave the airport, change terminals requiring immigration clearance, or have a longer layover, a Transit Visa (valid for up to 3 days) is required.
How will I receive the Armenia Visitors Visa?
Once your Armenia Visitors Visa application is approved, you'll receive an email. We recommend printing a physical copy to present at the border point of entry and keep it with your passport throughout your trip.
How long does the Armenia Visitors Visa processing take?
The Armenia Visitors Visa is usually processed quickly. With iVisa, you choose your processing speed at checkout, and the option you pick is shown with its delivery time before you pay. We recommend applying at least 10 days before your departure date to account for any unexpected government delays.
What happens if my Armenia Visitors Visa application is denied?
If denied, you will receive a notification via email. The most common reason for denial is incorrect passport details. You can usually re-apply by submitting a completely new application with corrected information. iVisa offers denial protection. Our experts manually review your application before submission to prevent issues.
