- Who it's for
- Travelers whose nationality requires a visa for Italy, going for tourism, visiting family and friends, business, transit, or short-term study. If your trip covers several Schengen countries, you apply through the one where you will spend the most time, or the first one you enter when the stays are equal.
- Permitted activities
- Tourism, business, and transit. Working and living in Italy are not covered. Business and private visits use the same visa but call for different evidence, such as an invitation from the host company or a host certificate for a private stay.
- How you travel
- It admits you at any external border of the Schengen area. Staying strictly airside in an international transit area is a different document, an airport transit visa, so this one is what you need the moment you clear immigration, change terminal, or leave the airport.
- Delivery format
- A sticker placed in your passport. Because it is an embassy visa, you attend an appointment in person to give biometric data, and the government fee is paid at that appointment. A visa service center such as VFS, TLS, or BLS may charge its own fee on top.
- Good to know
- Every traveler needs their own application and their own sticker, infants included, and no consulate processes a shared family file. Children under 12 do not give fingerprints, and if you gave fingerprints for a Schengen visa recently enough they can be retrieved rather than taken again. Both parents or guardians sign a child's form.
- Validity
- Valid for 90 days
- Entry
- Single entry
- Length of stay
- Stay up to 90 days per entry

Prompt service clear guidance good value for service. Will recommend to others.
The company is fast in accepting and accessing your filled forms, maybe it because they have a strong Internet network.
Am very much happy with the way the ivisa team works .am understanding all the information that is been sent to me thanks for the good job.
I have appreciated your availability at each stage of my Ivisa application process
I tried a visa to Saudi Arabia and it was really good experience
Everything perfect but I did would have more info about what concern the document that I have obtained, just more info about. Thank you for the quick service!
Found iVisa in a search for local passport photo sources; wasn't even looking for an online service. Turned out that iVisa was considerably easier than going to one of my local passport photo locations, like CVS or Walgreens. I will definitely use iVisa should I need this service again.
the service was at a high level could be more helpful , will be using again and will be recommend.to all my colleagues.
I found iVisa after wasting money getting pictures taken at a drugstore that were awful and then ended up being rejected at the consulate, causing me so much stress because I was forced to do the whole application process over again. IVisa was the complete opposite experience. I got to take the pictures myself, making sure the lighting was good and taking as many shots as needed until I got enough good ones to choose the best from. IVisa is cheaper than having a store take the picture and the quality was so much better. Its easy to use and they know the requirements for different countries which was helpful. Then you can get it mailed to you so you never have to leave the house, but I opted for same day pick up from a local drugstore because I wanted to make sure I had them in time. I will be using iVisa from now on and would recommend it to anyone wanting to make sure their visa or passport pictures turn out great.
Great service. Website is user friendly and prices are great for the service.
Italy visa FAQs
Quick answers to the most common questions about the Italy Schengen Visa.
Still have questions?
Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.
Which country should I apply to if my European trip includes Italy and other Schengen states?
You must apply through the Italian Consulate or its official visa application center only if Italy's your primary destination. This means you're spending the most days in Italy compared to other Schengen countries on your trip. If your stay's split exactly evenly, Italy must be your first point of entry.
What is the mandatory proof of funds rule for an Italy Schengen Visa?
Italy requires proof of financial self-sufficiency based on an official directive table. You must submit stamped bank statements covering the last 3 consecutive months. Depending on your length of stay, you must demonstrate a fixed base amount plus a set daily rate (averaging around €30 to €50 per day).
What is the dichiarazione di ospitalità and when do I need it?
If you're staying with a friend or relative in Italy, your host must complete a formal dichiarazione di ospitalità (declaration of hospitality). They must sign this document, attach a copy of their Italian ID or residence permit, and send it to you to submit as your official proof of accommodation.
What is the dichiarazione di presenza required after arriving in Italy?
If you enter Italy from another Schengen country, you must file a dichiarazione di presenza (declaration of presence) at the local police headquarters (questura) within 8 days of entry. If you fly directly into Italy from outside the Schengen zone, your passport's physical entry stamp automatically satisfies this requirement.
How early should I apply for my Italy Schengen Visa?
You can apply up to 6 months before your intended travel date (9 months for seafarers). The absolute latest you can submit your file is 15 calendar days before departure, though applying at least 4 weeks in advance is highly recommended to avoid peak seasonal backlogs.
What's the difference between an Italy Schengen Visa and a Permesso di Soggiorno?
A Schengen Visa (Type C) is strictly for short-term stays up to 90 days. If you plan to study, work, or live in Italy for over 90 days, you must obtain a National Visa (Type D) before traveling and then apply for a Permesso di Soggiorno (Residence Permit) within 8 working days of arrival.
What passport validity is required to enter Italy under Schengen rules?
Your passport must have a date of issue less than 10 years before your arrival date. It must also remain valid for at least 3 months past your intended departure date from the Schengen Area and contain at least two blank pages.
Do children/minors need their own Italy Schengen Visa?
Yes. There aren't any age exemptions for this visa; every traveler, including infants, must have their own individual application and visa sticker. For minors, the application form must be signed by both parents or legal guardians, and you must submit the child's birth certificate along with a notarized parental consent letter if they're traveling alone or with only one parent.
Do I need a Schengen Visa to transit through Italy?
If you're remaining in the international airport transit area for less than 24 hours without clearing immigration, you only need an Airport Transit Visa (Type A) if your nationality is on the required transit list. However, if you plan to leave the airport, change terminals requiring border clearance, or have a long layover where you clear immigration, you must obtain a standard short-stay Schengen Visa (Type C).
How will I receive the Italy Schengen Visa?
Unlike an electronic visa, the Schengen visa is a physical sticker affixed directly into your passport. After you attend your mandatory in-person biometrics appointment at the embassy, consulate, or official visa application center, your passport will be kept for processing and later returned to you via courier or personal collection with the visa inside.
How long does the Italy Schengen Visa processing take?
The standard processing time is 15 calendar days from the moment your application reaches the Italian embassy or consulate. However, it can take up to 45 days during peak seasons or if additional document verification is required. We recommend applying at least 2 months before your trip.
What is the difference between a Schengen Visa and ETIAS?
The Schengen Visa is for travelers who are not visa-exempt. The ETIAS (launching late 2026) is a digital travel authorization for citizens of visa-exempt countries (like the US, UK, and Canada). If you currently need a visa to enter Italy, you will continue to need a Schengen Visa.
What happens if my Italy Schengen Visa application is denied?
If denied, you'll receive an official refusal letter detailing the specific reasons. The most common grounds for denial are insufficient financial means or unverified accommodation proof. You have the right to lodge a formal written appeal within 15 days of receiving the refusal, or you can choose to fix the issues and submit a completely new application.
