Namibia visa requirements for German citizens

German citizens must obtain a visa to visit Namibia for short stays of up to 90 days for tourism or business.

German travelers need the following Namibia entry document:

  • Namibia eVisa on Arrival: An online entry pre-approval recommended for non-exempt nationals to expedite entry and bypass border lines. It allows German citizens to secure a stay of up to 90 days for holidays or business meetings. The actual visa stamp is issued upon landing at designated ports of entry after paying the N$ 1,600 (approx. €82) fee.

General Namibia entry requirements for German travelers are:

  • German passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended departure date and at least three blank pages
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Evidence of sufficient financial funds for the duration of the stay
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel reservation or host address)
  • Valid international travel medical insurance
  • Other supporting documents, depending on purpose/situation (e.g., business invitation letter)

Namibia visa FAQs

What German travelers commonly ask about Namibia visas

Yes. Namibia abolished its previous visa-free policy for Germany because of a lack of bilateral visa reciprocity. All German citizens traveling with a standard ordinary passport must now obtain a visa for stays of up to 90 days for tourism or business meetings.

While you can technically line up and purchase a traditional Visa on Arrival at designated ports of entry (like Hosea Kutako International Airport), the Namibian government strongly recommends applying for an online eVisa or Electronic Visa on Arrival (eVOA) in advance. This pre-approval streamlines your entry and helps you bypass extensive airport border queues.

For adult German citizens, the standard visa fee is N$ 1,600 (approx. €82). If you get your visa at the border checkpoint, you can pay using a credit/debit card or cash. Minor children aged 6 to 11 pay a reduced fee of N$ 800 (approx. €41), while children under 6 are entirely exempt from the fee.

Yes. If you hold a valid German diplomatic or official passport, you're still completely exempt from the visa requirement under a reciprocal bilateral agreement. This exemption doesn't apply to standard, civilian German passports.

Yes, if you wish to prolong your holiday, you can apply for an extension for up to a further three months (allowing a maximum total stay of 180 days). You must submit this application in person at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security headquarters in Windhoek before your initial 90-day stamp expires. You can't work or look for local employment during this extension.
