Thai visa policy for Nepalese citizens

Nepalese citizens don't need a visa for short trips to Thailand. They are currently visa-exempt for stays of up to 60 days for tourism or short-term business, and they may be able to extend once for up to 30 additional days at Thai Immigration (subject to approval). Even though a visa is not required, all Nepalese travelers must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before entering Thailand.

iVisa offers one Thailand entry document for Nepalese travelers:

  • Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC): A mandatory online arrival declaration that Nepalese citizens must submit within 3 days before arrival. Travelers must present the TDAC on entry as part of Thailand immigration requirements.

General Thailand entry requirements for Nepalese travelers are:

  • Nepalese passport valid for at least 6 months
  • Completed Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)
  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • Evidence of sufficient funds
  • Other supporting documents depending on purpose or situation

FAQs

No, but they must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before arrival.

Nepal citizens can stay in Thailand for up to 30 days.

Yes, Nepalese travelers may apply at a Thai Immigration Office for an extension of up to 30 days beyond the initial stay under the exemption (for example, from ~60 days to ~90). However, approval is not guaranteed and is at the discretion of immigration.

Travel under the exemption must be for tourism or short-term visits (e.g., leisure, visiting family/friends). Working, long-term study, volunteering, of doing business/employment is not permitted under this exemption.

You can be fined THB 500 per day for each day you overstayed your permitted stay. The fine is capped at THB 20,000 (typically reached when you've overstayed for 40+ days). Payment is normally made upon departure from Thailand at the airport or at an immigration office, in cash.

However, additional consequences may be imposed: if you overstay by more than 90 days, the situation moves from a simple administrative fine to more serious consequences, including detention, deportation, and a ban on re-entry to Thailand.
