Learn more about Australia Tourism
Every year, millions of people make the long journey to Australia for a getaway down under. If you’re setting off from the United States or Europe, you might be in the air for more than 12 hours each way, so it's worth staying for at least a couple of weeks to really get a feel for the laid back Aussie lifestyle that you’ll find when you arrive. Being so far away from the rest of the world has allowed Australian authorities to control the coronavirus breakout with intense scrutiny on the role of incoming travellers in spreading the disease. The same tough guidelines have protected Australian residents from other infectious diseases, with quarantine being an obligatory requirement for pets and animal imports for years before the pandemic.
Many young people take advantage of the working holiday visa to extend their stay for up to two years and look for work after they arrive in order to fund their vacation. Whether you’re going to Australia to let your hair down and enjoy the nightlife, relax with a barbecue on the beach or even meet up with long-lost relatives, one of our top recommendations is to invest wisely in high strength skincare protection.
The weather varies distinctly depending on which part of Australia you will travel to and what time of the year it is. The seasons are the opposite of those that fall in the Northern Hemisphere, which means that when it’s snowy and cold in the USA or UK, it’s hot and sunny down under. Similarly, when it’s winter in Australia, it’s usually summertime in the northern region. The tropical northern region of the country either experiences dry or wet climates, while the other regions can see all four seasons throughout the year. Average temperatures can hit 30 degrees celsius in Perth in the summer months between November and February and fall as low as -1 degrees celsius during winter in July. Make sure you protect your skin from the sun by applying cream regularly, and make it a daily part of your morning routine to avoid leaving the house without it. Remember that it takes around 30 minutes for sunscreen to dissolve into your pores and activate protection against harmful rays, so it’s best not to leave it until the last minute. Don’t let unexpected surprises disrupt your hotly anticipated vacation and apply for your Australia Travel Declaration with sufficient time to receive this key document in your email inbox before setting off.
Another way to get ahead when packing for Australia is to purchase insect repellant. The number one reason that many travellers list as their reason for not making the long journey to the area is the sheer amount of creepy crawlies and snakes that can be found there. Don’t be surprised to see a spider the size of your hand crawl out from under the bed, and stay clear of untouched, overgrown areas that could be home to hundreds of poisonous, and harmless, reptiles. Swimming in rivers can also be dangerous if crocodiles and alligators frequent the watering hole, so always keep an eye out for signs warning you of risks. Every year, on average 16 people are bitten by sharks in unprovoked attacks while swimming, surfing or engaging in other open water activities. Often the first you’ll know about it will be when the jaws of these massive fish are closing around your body, so respect the flags that indicate safe zones to enter the water.
Now that you know all about the hazards to watch out for, it’s ready for the best part of your vacation to Australia- planning your activities. A month mightn’t even be long enough to cover everything you want to see, especially as you’ll be trying to sightsee around an area that’s bigger than all of the nations in Western Europe put together. We recommend that you take time to discover the country’s capital, Canberra. Although it’s not the biggest city, it’s well worth a spot on your itinerary for an opportunity to delve into the history of this former prison colony. Save your pennies with a free guided tour of Australian Parliament House, where you can snap photos of the impressive architecture of the building and glimpse the working chambers where political decisions take shape. Find out more about the Prime Ministers that led the country over the years in the portrait gallery.
For an unbeatable family day out, you should book the cheetah experience and a ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ at the National Zoo and Aquarium, located just a small distance away. Talented zookeepers will guide you through the animal’s exhibits and for an extra fee you can eat lunch with giraffes, hide treats for the sun bears and hand feed them as well as having the chance to pet a kangaroo.
Once you’ve decided whether you want to visit Australia for a short-term vacation, or stay there for months or even years, you’ll have to start looking at the essential entry documentation. An Australia ETA is required for most nationalities, but we suggest that you trial the Visa Checker tool on the iVisa.com website to check exactly what paperwork you will need. Whilst the ongoing covid situation means that enhanced health and safety precautions are considered vital, you’ll also be required to complete the Australia Travel Declaration to help the authorities keep track of your travel plans and history. This Health Declaration can be filled in using the user-friendly form on the iVisa.com website. Simply complete the relevant sections and provide details about where you’ve been recently, the state of your health and where you will stay once you arrive in Australia.
With our expert guidance, you just need to pay our service charge using Paypal or a credit/debit card and submit the form for review. We will check the application against the passport copy that you provide before processing it to the highest standard. Your Australia Travel Declaration will be sent to you via email and all you need to do is keep it with you when you land and show it to border officials when necessary.
