Australia eVisitor requirements

The Australia eVisitor Visa (Subclass 651) is an electronic travel authorization for citizens of eligible European countries seeking short-term tourism or business visits in Australia.

Unlike a traditional paper visa, it is digitally linked to your passport, removing the need for embassy visits or physical stamps.

Who it's for
Citizens of eligible European countries making a short visit to Australia. British passports qualify only for British Citizens, so holders of British National (Overseas), British Overseas Territories Citizen, British Overseas Citizen, British Protected Person or British Subject passports need a Visitor visa instead.
Permitted activities
Tourism, visiting family and friends, cruising, and business visitor activities such as enquiries, contract negotiations and conferences. A short course of study or training is permitted in some circumstances. Paid work for an Australian employer is never allowed, and neither is selling goods or services to the public.
How you travel
It covers arrival by air and by sea, and it is multiple-entry, so there is no single-entry version to choose between. A round-trip cruise does not restart the clock on your permitted stay.
Delivery format
A digital grant linked electronically to your passport. There is no label or stamp, so nothing is added to the passport itself.
Good to know
Every traveler needs their own authorization, including children already listed on a parent's passport, and family members cannot be combined into one application. You must be outside Australia both when you apply and when a decision is made. It cannot be extended, so staying longer means applying for a different visa.
Validity
Valid for 1 year

Australia visa FAQs

Quick answers to the most common questions about the Australia eVisitor.

Still have questions?

Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.

Do I need an eVisitor (Subclass 651), ETA (Subclass 601), or a Visitor Visa (Subclass 600)?

The eVisitor (Subclass 651) is specifically for passport holders from the European Union and several other European nations (like the UK, Switzerland, and Norway). If you are from a country not on the eVisitor list, such as the US or Canada, you may need an ETA (Subclass 601) or a standard Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) via the embassy.

What activities are permitted on an eVisitor Visa?

You can visit Australia with an eVisitor Visa to: Spend a holiday or visit family and friends; Engage in business visitor activities (investigating business opportunities, attending conferences, or negotiating contracts); Study or train for up to 3 months in total. Note: You cannot work for or provide services to a business or organization based in Australia, nor sell goods or services to the public.

How will I receive the Australia eVisitor Visa?

Once approved, your visa grant notification will be sent to your email. You do not need a label in your passport, as the visa is electronically linked to your passport number.

How long can I stay in Australia with an eVisitor Visa?

The eVisitor Visa allows you to stay for up to 3 months (90 days) on each visit. Because it is a multiple-entry visa valid for 12 months, you can leave and return as many times as you like within that year, provided no single stay exceeds 3 months.

How long does Australia eVisitor Visa processing take?

Many eVisitor applications are granted almost instantly. However, if manual checks are required, it can take longer. With iVisa, you choose your processing speed at checkout, and the option you pick is shown with its delivery time before you pay. We recommend applying at least 3 days before your departure date.

What happens if my Australia eVisitor Visa application is denied?

If your application is denied, the Department of Home Affairs will notify you of the reason. Usually, you cannot appeal a decision for an eVisitor, but you may be able to apply for a different visa type (like the Subclass 600).

What are the most common reasons for denial?

The most common reasons are typos in the passport number or date of birth, or failing to meet 'genuine visitor' requirements.

Can I extend my Australia eVisitor Visa?

No. The eVisitor Visa cannot be extended. If you want to stay longer than 3 months, you must apply for a different visa (such as the Visitor Visa Subclass 600) while still in Australia.

Do I need a health exam for the Australia eVisitor Visa?

Most eVisitor applicants do not need a medical exam. However, you may be asked to undergo one if you plan to enter a hospital environment, study to be a doctor/nurse, or if you are over 75 years of age.

Can I enter Australia at any port with the eVisitor Visa?

Yes, the eVisitor Visa is accepted at all international airports and seaports in Australia.
