Like many other nationalities, the citizens of Hong Kong qualify for a Sri Lanka visa on arrival. However, if you want to receive it when you get to Sri Lanka, you must apply for a Sri Lanka ETA before departure.

This is good because this means you can apply for it online and you don't need to deal with the embassy at all. Also, for your convenience, iVisa can help you through the whole process.

Do you want to learn more about this e-Visa? We invite you to keep reading this article.

Sri Lanka

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I have a Hong Kong passport, do I need an ETA to enter Sri Lanka?

Yes, totally. If you're from Hong Kong, you must apply for a Sri Lanka Tourist ETA. You can check more about the requirements here.

How many types of Sri Lanka ETAs are there for Hong Kongers passport holders?

There are two kinds of ETA available for Hong Kongers:

  • Tourist ETA.

  • Business ETA.

Keep in mind that this article contains information about the Tourist ETA, but you can read all the requirements needed for both electronic visas here.

What is the Sri Lanka ETA?

The (ETA) is the acronym for Electronic Travel Authorization, an official document that allows travelers to enter Sri Lanka for tourism or business purposes.

How long can I stay in Sri Lanka with my ETA?

You can remain in Sri Lanka for 30 days per entry.

What are the requirements?

Before you apply for your Sri Lanka ETA, you must make sure that you meet the requirements. The list contains nothing out of the ordinary, and you may already have everything you need. Here is what you must provide iVisa to get the process started:

  • Valid passport – to obtain a Sri Lanka ETA, all travelers must have a valid passport that maintains its validity for at least another 6 months from the date of arrival in Sri Lanka.

  • Digital photo – make sure that the picture is as recent as possible and follows all the guidelines for a passport photo.

  • Valid e-mail address – iVisa will send you the ETA via e-mail in PDF format, which is why you must provide an e-mail address to which you have access. Do not forget to print out at least one physical copy before you leave.

  • Means of payment – during the application process, you will be required to make the payment. iVisa accepts credit or debit cards, but you can use PayPal too.

What are the prices and processing times?

When completing your application form, you have to select a processing time, but keep in mind that the sooner you want your Sri Lanka ETA, the more you have to pay for it. Here are your options:

  • Standard processing – this is the cheapest and slowest option iVisa puts at your disposal. Your application is processed within 15 days, and it costs USD $89.99 (service fees included).

  • Rush processing – this time, your ETA arrives in just 10 days, but you will be charged USD $113.99.

  • Super Rush processing – it only takes 8 days for your application to be processed. As you can imagine, the fee is higher. USD $162.99 to be more precise.

A trip to Sri Lanka for business purposes requires a Sri Lanka Business ETA. The processing time options remain the same, but the fees are slightly different.

How do I fill in the application form?

Once you put together all of the above, there is one more requirement you must meet, and that is to fill in the application form. That should be easy since iVisa created a straightforward form that should not take more than 20 minutes of your time. Plus, if you need assistance, iVisa has a fantastic support service that can help you 24/7. The service is entirely free of charge.

The application form on iVisa has three steps:

  1. The first one asks for your basic information such as name, address, date of birth, passport info, and so on. You also have to select your processing time in this part

  2. Step two is about payment and revision. We covered payment above, and as for the review, you need to not underestimate the step. Any small error can render your visa invalid, which is why we recommend that you read carefully the information you inserted during step one.

  3. The third and last step is when iVisa asks you to upload the necessary documentation such as the photo and the passport scan. If additional documents are required, you will be let know. After step three is complete, you are free to submit your application. Needless to say, a Sri Lanka visa for the citizens of Hong Kong is easy to obtain when you apply with iVisa.

Do I need to carry a printed copy of the Sri Lanka Tourist ETA?

Remember that it's electronically linked to your passport, but we still suggest travelers to print this confirmation and keep a copy of it with your passport.

Do I need to get separate Tourist ETAs if I travel with kids?

Every child who is under 12 years old is exempt from paying the ETA.

How can I apply for my family or friends?

A good thing for you is that you can apply for friends or family. Just make sure to have all the required documents (you can see above in this article). If you are applying for only one friend or family member, just apply here introducing his or her information. In case you want to apply for more than one person, you can do so by clicking on ‘Add new applicant’ in the application form and completing the data required.
