Barbados ED Card

The Barbados ED Card is a digital entry form required for all travelers arriving by air. It replaces the traditional paper immigration form and must be submitted at least 72 hours before departure.

You'll need:

  • 🛂 Passport: Valid for the entire stay (6 months recommended).
  • 🤳A selfie or photo: Follow our step-by-step guidance to take your own photo or upload one you’ve already taken.
  • 🛬 Return/onward ticket: You must show you have tickets back to your home country.
  • 🏠 Accommodation details: Confirmation of where you’ll be staying.

Barbados Welcome Stamp (Digital Nomad Visa)*

Barbados offers a 12-month Welcome Stamp visa for remote workers who want to live and work from paradise. You must show proof of income over $50,000 USD/year and have health insurance.

*We currently don’t offer this visa.

Barbados Visit Visa (non-exempt visitors)*

The Barbados Visit Visa is required for travelers from non-exempt countries who wish to enter Barbados for tourism, business, or short stays. While most nationalities can enter Barbados visa-free for up to 90 or 180 days, citizens of countries like Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and several African and Asian nations must apply in advance.

The visit visa is typically granted for single or multiple entries and allows stays of up to 90 days per visit.

*We currently don’t offer this visa.

Barbados Student Visa*

The Barbados Student Visa is required for international students accepted into an accredited educational institution in Barbados. To apply, students must first receive an official acceptance letter and then submit a visa application to the Barbados Immigration Department.

This visa permits entry and residence for the duration of the academic program, typically ranging from a few months to several years.

*We currently don’t offer this visa.

Barbados Work Visa*

The Barbados Work Permit or Work Visa is required for foreign nationals who intend to work or accept employment in Barbados. There are two main types of permits: short-term work permits (valid for up to 11 months) and long-term work permits (valid for up to 3 years, renewable).

To get a work permit, the employer must apply on behalf of the foreign national, demonstrating that no qualified Barbadian is available for the position.

*We currently don’t offer this visa.

Barbados visa policy

Barbados maintains one of the most travel-friendly visa policies in the Caribbean. Visitors from the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, and many other countries do not need a tourist visa for stays of up to 90 or 180 days depending on nationality.

However, all air travelers must submit the Barbados ED Card online before boarding their flight. This applies to tourists, returning residents, and transiting passengers.

The ED Card functions as a combined immigration and customs declaration and collects essential health and travel details. It must be completed at least 72 hours before arrival and shown upon landing. Failing to present the ED Card can result in delays or denied entry.

If you’re planning to work remotely, you can apply for the Barbados Welcome Stamp, a separate visa that allows you to stay and work from the island for 12 months. Other visa types, like student or long-term work permits, require direct application through the Barbados Immigration Department and usually involve sponsorship or in-person appointments.

Overstaying in Barbados without a valid extension may result in fines or deportation. Always check the latest requirements before you travel, especially during peak seasons or public health updates.

No, the Barbados ED Card is currently only required for travelers arriving by air. Cruise passengers typically complete a separate port-of-entry process.

Processing is usually fast, with most approvals issued within hours. However, delays can occur, especially during peak travel periods or if the information is incorrect. Apply at least 72 hours before departure for peace of mind.

We’ll process your ED Card as fast as fastest processing speed.

For other visas, count on a couple of weeks at least, but check with the government for exact processing times.

Most travelers from countries like the US, UK, EU, and Canada don’t need a visa and can stay up to 90 or 180 days, depending on nationality.

If you're from a visa-required country (such as Haiti or the Dominican Republic), you must apply in advance through a Barbadian embassy. You'll need a valid passport, proof of accommodation, return ticket, and funds to support your stay. Processing takes 2–4 weeks.

Every traveler must also fill out the ED Card, even if you don’t need a visa.

For other visas and documents, you’ll need to complete the application process through the government, pay the visa fee, and in some cases, schedule an interview at a Barbados embassy or consulate.

Supporting documents like your passport, photo, and purpose of travel are required.

No, the ED Card is not a visa. It's a mandatory digital travel form that all travelers arriving by air must complete before entry. Even if you're visa-exempt, you still need to submit an ED Card.

No, you cannot work in Barbados on a Tourist eVisa. This visa is strictly for leisure travel or family visits, and any kind of paid employment or freelance activity is prohibited under this visa category. Overstaying without an approved extension may result in fines, detention, or future entry bans. You should always apply for an extension before your current permission expires through the Barbados Immigration Department.

Our team of iVisa experts will review your documents to make sure you have the best chance of being approved.

We then send it to the government for processing on your behalf.

Once your visa is approved, we’ll then email you your document.

In the meantime, download the iVisa app, so you can access your travel documents while you're on the go.
