- Who it's for
- Travelers who do not have visa-free access to the European Union and are visiting Bulgaria for a short stay. Family members of EU and EEA citizens exercising free movement follow a different route and are not covered here.
- Permitted activities
- Tourism, business, visiting family or friends, and transit. Working and living in the Schengen area are not permitted on this visa. The purpose you declare changes the evidence you file, not the visa itself.
- Where you apply
- This is an embassy visa, stamped into your passport. You apply to the consulate of the country where you will spend the most time, or of the country you enter first when the stays are equal, and you attend in person to give biometric data.
- Delivery format
- A sticker placed in your passport by the consulate. It is valid across the external borders of the Schengen area, not only for Bulgaria.
- Good to know
- Every traveler needs their own application and their own sticker, infants included, and no consulate processes a shared family file. If you gave fingerprints for a Schengen visa recently, they may be retrieved from the Visa Information System instead of taken again.
- Validity
- Valid for 90 days
- Entry
- Single entry
- Length of stay
- Stay up to 90 days per entry
- Processing time
- Get it in as fast as 45 days

Bulgaria is beutiful and welcoming Country , every body can easy and fast get his visa
Your website makes it seem like some government official needs to sign off on Bulgaria form. But they do not. I could have filled one out myself! Keep your $20. What a racket!
Please ask me how many people I want to apply for before I get started. I had to do it twice - once for me and once for my husband. If there was a way to do it for two people, I did not see it. So, before I apply, please ask me first how many people. That will make it easier. Otherwise, the process was easy and did not take too much time. Thank you.
I ordered a health declaration form. I don't know how their other services are, but this one is completely worthless. I was scammed into thinking this was something I needed to prepare prior to entering Bulgaria. I completed iVisa's web form, which was very confusing. Some prompts were filled out incorrectly by me. No one reviewed my responses as is promised on iVisa's website. When I received the completed form back, it was incorrect in a few places. The actual form itsself was extremely simple; something a child could complete; its wording, much clearer than iVisa's web form. I have attempted to get the errors fixed, because... ya know... I've already paid them $20. I emailed them my requested changes. There were a total of three back-and-forth exchanges, each time, the rep wasn't paying attention to my attachment, which was their PDF with the errors corrected. I don't know what happened there, because it couldn't have made it clearer. I even highlighted the changes. After those three exchanges, I stopped receiving a response and never got the corrected form from iVisa. Now I'm traveling and it's too late. In the end, there was absolutely no reason to pay someone to do this. That's on me for not doing enough research. But yeah, that service is a scam. Again, this may not reflect their other services. Just don't pay iVisa for a health declaration form. In fact, don't pay anyone. If one is ever needed, it's extremely simple to complete yourself.

Still have questions?
Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.
Do I need a Bulgaria Schengen Visa?
If your nationality requires a visa to enter Bulgaria and is not on the visa-free list, you'll need a Schengen Visa to enter Bulgaria and all other Schengen member states for tourism or business.
Can I apply for a Bulgaria Schengen Visa online?
While you can start the process and fill out the application form online through iVisa, the Schengen rules require you to attend an in-person appointment for biometric collection (fingerprints and photo) and to submit your physical documents at a consulate or visa center.
How will I receive the Bulgaria Schengen Visa?
After the authorities in Bulgaria process your application, you will receive your passport back with the visa sticker attached, ready for your trip. You can also find a copy of your Schengen Visa confirmation in your iVisa dashboard if applied through us.
How long can I stay in Bulgaria?
The standard short-stay visa (Type C) allows you to stay for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period in the Schengen Area. This applies to the entire Schengen Zone, not just Bulgaria. If you have a multiple-entry visa, you must still adhere to the 90/180-day rule.
Can I extend my stay in Bulgaria?
Schengen Visa extensions are rarely granted. You can generally only extend your visa in cases of force majeure (e.g., natural disasters or flight cancellations), humanitarian reasons, or serious personal reasons that prevent you from leaving. You must apply at the local Foreigners' Authority before your visa expires.
What is the processing time of a Bulgaria Schengen Visa?
The standard processing time is 15 calendar days from the moment your application reaches the Bulgaria Consulate. However, it can take up to 45 days during peak seasons or if additional document verification is required. We recommend applying at least 2 months before your trip.
Do children/minors need a Bulgaria Schengen Visa?
Yes. Every traveler, including infants and minors, requires their own visa. For minors, the application must be signed by both parents/legal guardians, and a birth certificate must be provided along with a notarized travel consent form if the child is traveling alone or with only one parent. You can use iVisa's "Add another person" feature to easily manage applications for the whole family in one session, saving time and effort.
What is the difference between a Schengen Visa and ETIAS?
The Schengen Visa is for travelers who are not visa-exempt. The ETIAS (launching late 2026) is a digital travel authorization for citizens of visa-exempt countries (like the US, UK, and Canada). If you currently need a visa to enter Bulgaria, you will continue to need a Schengen Visa.
