- Who it's for
- Travelers from eligible countries who do not have visa-free access to the European Union and want to visit Greece for a short stay. There is no age exemption, so every child, including infants, needs their own application and their own visa.
- Permitted activities
- Tourism, business and transit. Working and living in the Schengen area are not permitted on this visa. Business files need an invitation from the host company, while a private visit needs a certificate from the host.
- Where you apply
- This is an embassy visa, so you apply at the consulate of the country you intend to visit. If you are visiting more than one country, apply at the consulate where you will spend the most time, or the country you enter first when the stays are equal.
- Biometrics
- Your fingerprints and photo are collected in person at the consulate, and the government fee is paid at that appointment. If you gave fingerprints for a Schengen visa recently, they can be retrieved from the Visa Information System and you may not need a new appointment.
- Delivery format
- A sticker placed in your passport by the consulate, not a digital document. It is valid at all external borders of the Schengen area.
- Validity
- Valid for 90 days
- Entry
- Single entry
- Length of stay
- Stay up to 90 days per entry
- Processing time
- Get it in as fast as 45 days

I was forced into paying for an " add on" which I did not require just to be able to complete the visa application. The visa is available for free from the embassy. I chose to pay for the ease of securing the document with our vaccination status endorsed on the document. I provided the necessary Government proof of vaccination and it is not endorsed on the visa. A poor and, seemingly, oppressive process that appears to be designed to require the selection of an add on when one is not required nor wanted. Last time I use the service from now on I shall apply through the embassy for free.
Quick, easy, gave me peace of mind to know I am ‘ready’ !! Thank you
Quick and easy to follow system and got my PLF’s next morning Thanks
I'd tried repeatedly to pull up the Passenger Locator Form on govgr but it kept saying there was an error. Therefore the cost of iVisa was well worth it.
My iVisa experience was convenient, timely, and helpful for short notice travel.
Couldn't access the government website, tried for 2 days you completed very quickly.
I think , i had to write 7 times the same. The Picture of th Vaccination i had to send twice
Very easy to follow format, as a heading at the beginning suggest advise the documents required to fill out form apart from that straight forward.
So far so good. It came less 24 hours later which was very good.
Process was overall pretty smooth, however when the documents were sent to me some of the information I had entered didn't match what the finished document said. Jury is out on how long it will take to remedy.

Still have questions?
Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.
Which country should I apply to if my European trip includes Greece and other Schengen states?
You must apply through the Greek consulate or its official Visa Application Center (VAC) only if Greece is your primary destination. This means you're spending the most days in Greece compared to any other Schengen country on your trip. If your stay is split exactly evenly, you must apply to the Schengen country you'll enter first.
What are the specific requirements if a Greek citizen is hosting me for a private visit?
If you're being invited by a Greek citizen or registered resident, they must provide an official sworn invitation statement (Ypefthyni Dilosi). This document must be formally authorized and stamped by Greek local authorities, such as a KEP (Citizens Service Center) or a Greek police station, and include a copy of their ID.
Do I need a Greek Schengen Visa if I'm only visiting Greece via a cruise ship?
Yes, if your nationality requires a visa for the Schengen Area. Even if you're sleeping on the cruise ship, every time you disembark at a Greek port (like Mykonos or Santorini) to sightsee, you're entering Schengen territory. You'll need a standard Schengen Visa, typically a multiple-entry one if the cruise itinerary leaves and re-enters Schengen international waters.
What specific proof of funds is required for a Greek Schengen Visa?
The Greek authorities require proof that you can financially support yourself. You must submit certified bank statements covering the last 3 to 6 months (ideally featuring a scannable QR code if issued by local banks). While the exact daily minimum can vary, demonstrating available liquid funds of around €50 per day of your stay is a safe standard.
How early should I apply for my Greece Schengen Visa?
You can apply up to 6 months before your intended travel date (9 months for seafarers). The absolute latest you can submit your application is 15 calendar days before departure, but we strongly recommend applying 3 to 4 weeks in advance to avoid peak summer travel backlogs.
What are the travel medical insurance requirements for Greece?
Your policy must cover the entire Schengen Area with a minimum coverage of €30,000 for emergency medical treatment and repatriation. The insurance must be valid for the total duration of your intended stay, and you must present the physical certificate during your visa appointment and at border control.
Do children/minors need their own Greece Schengen Visa?
Yes. There aren't any age exemptions for this visa; every traveler, including infants, must have their own individual application and visa sticker. For minors, the application form must be signed by both parents or legal guardians, and you must submit the child's birth certificate along with a notarized parental consent letter if they're traveling alone or with only one parent.
Do I need a Schengen Visa to transit through Greece?
If you're remaining in the international airport transit area for less than 24 hours without clearing immigration, you only need an Airport Transit Visa (Type A) if your nationality is on the required transit list. However, if you plan to leave the airport, change terminals requiring border clearance, or have a long layover where you clear immigration, you must obtain a standard short-stay Schengen Visa (Type C).
How will I receive the Greece Schengen Visa?
Unlike an electronic visa, the Schengen visa is a physical sticker affixed directly into your passport. After you attend your mandatory in-person biometrics appointment at the embassy, consulate, or official visa application center, your passport will be kept for processing and later returned to you via courier or personal collection with the visa inside.
How long does the Greece Schengen Visa processing take?
The standard processing time is 15 calendar days from the moment your application reaches the Greek embassy or consulate. However, it can take up to 45 days during peak seasons or if additional document verification is required. We recommend applying at least 2 months before your trip.
What is the difference between a Schengen Visa and ETIAS?
The Schengen Visa is for travelers who are not visa-exempt. The ETIAS (launching late 2026) is a digital travel authorization for citizens of visa-exempt countries (like the US, UK, and Canada). If you currently need a visa to enter Greece, you will continue to need a Schengen Visa.
What happens if my Greece Schengen Visa application is denied?
If denied, you'll receive an official refusal letter detailing the specific reasons. The most common grounds for denial are an incomplete travel itinerary or a lack of strong ties to your home country. You have the right to lodge a formal written appeal within 15 days of receiving the refusal, or you can choose to fix the issues and submit a completely new application.
