To enter Japan, you will need a valid Japan eVisa. Our user-friendly platform guides you through the necessary steps, ensuring a seamless experience from start to finish. So, let's delve into the requirements and application process to get your Japan eVisa.

What is the Japan eVisa?

The Japan eVisa or Japan e-visa is an electronic travel authorization that allows eligible individuals to enter Japan for tourism purposes.

This Japan online visa simplifies the visa application process by eliminating the need for in-person visits to embassies or consulates.

What can you do with the Japan eVisa?

With the electronic Japan visa, you can:

  • Explore Japan's rich cultural heritage and visit famous tourist attractions.

What can’t you do with the Japan eVisa?

However, it's important to note that the Japan electronic visa has certain limitations. Here are a few things you cannot do with the eVisa:

  • Work in Japan without obtaining the necessary work permits or visas.

  • Engage in any form of paid employment or long-term studies.

  • Stay in Japan beyond the permitted duration granted by the eVisa.

  • Visit friends and family.

  • Engage in business activities.

  • Seek medical treatment.

  • Attend special events, festivals, or conferences held in the country.

  • Undertake any activities not in line with the purpose specified in your eVisa application.

It's crucial to adhere to the terms and conditions of the Japan eVisa to ensure a smooth and compliant stay in the country.

Who can apply for the Japan eVisa?

The Japan eVisa is available for citizens of select countries. Currently, travelers from 127 nationalities can apply for the Japan eVisa if they are residents of Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, the UK, and the USA.

To verify your eligibility and check if you require a visa for Japan, you can use our convenient Visa Checker Tool, which provides up-to-date information based on your nationality and the purpose of your travel.

Minors also require a Japanese eVisa to enter the country. Legal guardians or parents must complete the application process on behalf of the minor. Additional documents, such as a birth certificate or a letter of consent from the non-accompanying parent, may be required.

Other Japan visa options

If you do not qualify for the eVisa, you may need to apply for a different visa. Some options include:

  • Japan Tourist Visa for certain foreign nationals wanting to visit the country for tourism purposes. We offer a simplified online application for this visa as well.

  • Visa Exemption: Citizens of certain countries may be eligible for visa exemption, allowing them visa-free travel into Japan as part of the visa waiver program. The length of stay and conditions vary depending on the nationality. It's essential to check if your country is eligible for visa exemption and review the requirements and limitations.

  • Temporary Visitor Visa: This visa category is suitable for individuals visiting Japan for tourism, sightseeing, or visiting friends and relatives. It allows a stay of up to 90 days.

  • Work Visa: If you plan to work in Japan, you must obtain a work visa. Work visas are issued based on specific job categories and require sponsorship from a Japanese employer or organization. Each type has its own set of requirements, such as academic qualifications and work experience.

  • Student Visa: If you intend to study in Japan at a recognized educational institution, you must apply for a student visa. This visa allows for a more extended stay and is issued to individuals enrolled in universities, language schools, vocational schools, or other educational programs.

  • Spouse or Dependent Visa: If you are married to a Japanese citizen or a foreign national residing in Japan with a valid visa, you may be eligible for a spouse or dependent visa. This allows you to join your spouse or family in Japan for a specified period.

It's important to note that each visa category has specific requirements and visa applications. Unfortunately, we do not offer many of these currently and highly recommend consulting the official website of the Embassy or Consulate of Japan in your home country for detailed information on these.

How long is the Japan eVisa valid for?

The Japan eVisa is:

  • valid for 90 days after issued

  • a Single entry visa into Japan.

You can enter Japan once with your Japan eVisa and stay up to 90 days per entry. You cannot use your Japan eVisa to enter Japan multiple times.

If you need to stay in Japan for over 90 days, you must apply for a different type of visa through the nearest Japanese embassy or consulate.

The Japan eVisa application process typically does not require an interview. It is a streamlined and online process that allows applicants to complete the necessary steps and submit their documents online.

However, in rare cases, the Japanese embassy or consulate may request an interview if they require additional information or clarification regarding the application.

If you are requested to attend an interview for your Japan eVisa application, it is essential to be prepared. Here are some tips on preparing for a potential eVisa interview:

  1. Review Your Application: Familiarize yourself with the details provided in your eVisa application. Be prepared to answer questions related to your purpose of travel, itinerary, accommodation, and other information you provided during the application process.

  2. Gather Supporting Documents: Bring all the required supporting documents to the interview. These may include your passport, itinerary, accommodation details, financial statements, employment information, and any other documents specified by the embassy or consulate.

  3. Research Japan: Have a basic understanding of Japan, its culture, customs, and tourist attractions. This will demonstrate your genuine interest in visiting the country and may help during the interview process.

  4. Dress Professionally: Dress appropriately for the interview, professionally presenting yourself. This shows respect for the interview process and the officials conducting it.

  5. Be Punctual and Polite: Arrive on time for the interview and be respectful and courteous towards the embassy or consulate staff. Follow their instructions and answer questions truthfully and clearly.

  6. Practice Communication: If English is not your native language, practice your communication skills to effectively express yourself during the interview. Consider rehearsing potential interview questions with a friend or family member.

I'm going from Cape Town to Vietnam and I’ve got a complex travel day. My route takes me from JFK in New York to Haneda Airport in Tokyo, then after a layover, I need to head over to Narita Airport to catch my next flight. Since I’ll be leaving Haneda to get to Narita, do I need a special transit visa or would a tourist visa work as well?

If you're traveling from JFK through Haneda to Narita and you plan to leave Haneda to catch a flight at Narita, you will need a visa that allows you to enter Japan, like the Japan eVisa. Transit visas are typically only applicable if you don't leave the airport transit area. Since you're transferring between two different airports, this involves entering Japan, and hence, a visa would be necessary. You can get started on your Japan eVisa application now.

I have an issue with my eVisa. It’s been issued without my middle name, which is on my Canadian PR card and my passport. Is this going to be a problem? Should I reapply for the eVisa or is there a way to add the missing name to the existing one? I travel to Japan at the end of the month.

It's important to have your eVisa match your passport details exactly to avoid issues at immigration. Because your eVisa has already been issued, you might need to reapply to ensure all details match your passport to avoid any travel disruptions.

Japan is a country in East Asia, and is also known as the ‘Land of the Rising Sun.’ One of the best things about Japan is that the past meets the future in one place. The highly traditional culture has fully embraced the modern world, and that is what makes Japan a fantastic place to visit. While you are there, you will experience a little bit of everything and bring home unforgettable memories.

Japan is a beautiful contradiction: modern buildings and smart technology right alongside ancient social customs and rituals. You are bound to have a wonderful experience since the people are incredibly polite and welcoming, the cuisine is delicious, and there are a million attractions for all kinds of tourists. We recommend that you get out of the hustle and bustle of Tokyo to explore 'the Land of the Rising Sun'. Hot springs, mountains, and villages are both exciting and puzzling at times. Take your time and you'll find something new at every turn.

The language used in Japan is Japanese, although the country has no official language. Getting around should not be too complicated. Adults under 40 have studied English in school, but they tend to be better in writing than in conversation. At the same time, if you plan on visiting rural areas, far from the major tourist attractions, then it would be best if you learned a few phrases in Japanese. Not many people speak English in the countryside, and you will have difficulty getting around.

The best time of year to travel in Japan depends on what you want to see. Japan has all four seasons, and each of them has something to offer. However, you should aim for the spring or autumn. You can see the world-renowned cherry blossoms in the spring. Japanese people have made this natural occurrence into a big event. There are festivals you can join, along with many other celebrations. Just remember that the Sakura trees do not blossom at the same time everywhere. The climate is a bit milder in the south than in the north, so it makes sense that it occurs in the south first.

In the autumn, you can experience another beautiful natural occurrence. Fall usually comes with a wide variety of colors as the trees prepare to sleep during the winter and lose their leaves. But not before they play around with colors ranging from bright red to brown.

One thing that may interest you during the winter is the wide variety of hot springs. Japan is full of them, and nothing compares to shaking off low temperatures by submerging yourself in steaming hot water outside.

As to what you can see in Japan, it’s difficult to know where to start. But you can begin with castles. One particularity about Japanese castles is that they look nothing like the European castles you may be familiar with. They are made of wood, and make a striking appearance from the outside. It is a known fact that Japanese culture includes a lot of skill when it comes to putting piece of wood together, and the castle builders were, indeed, artists. Plus, the gardens surrounding Japanese castles are little pieces of heaven.

Buddhist temples may also be something you are interested in. One of the primary religions in Japan is Buddhism, and as you can imagine, there is a temple in every single establishment.

Regarding what you can do in Japan, the possibilities are numerous. For one thing, you can go and see Mount Fuji. It is the highest point in Japan, and many tourists go there for sightseeing and mountain climbing. One of the things for which Mount Fuji is famous is its incredible view from the top. Another thing that may be of interest is the Haguro Mountain. It is considered holy by the Japanese people. The interesting thing here is that you can climb the mountain using the 2446 stone steps. It may sound like an incredible effort, and it is, but only if you have a poor physical condition. You can stop multiple times on your way up, and the sights you see as you go through the primeval forest is worth the climb.

While in Japan, one of the things you must take advantage of is the cuisine. Japan is an island, and it is mostly self-reliant when it comes to food. That is why Japanese cuisine is based on vegetables. And, of course, beef. Japanese beef is famous all around the world, and if you want to have a taste of the best, you should go to Kobe. Surely you have heard about Kobe beef before. One meal is indeed not the cheapest affair, but it is worth it. You have to regard the whole thing as an experience in itself. Plus, the Japanese way of cooking is interesting as well. Some meals are prepared by yourself, right on the table in front of you.

The bottom line is that Japan should be on your bucket list. The people are known for their incredibly generous hospitality, and you are sure to have a wonderful time. There are plenty of sights to see, and a lot of things you can do. Japan is a country that has plenty to offer on all fronts.
