- Who it's for
- Travelers from the nationalities Kuwait names as eligible who are visiting for tourism. Foreign residents of the other Gulf Cooperation Council states can also qualify through their residency and profession rather than their nationality. Citizens of those five states are visa-free and do not need it.
- Permitted activities
- Tourism and entertainment. Working is not permitted on any Kuwait visa type, and you must leave before the permit expires. Family visits, business and government travel each have their own separate visa type on Kuwait's portal.
- How you travel
- Entry is allowed by air, sea and land. Kuwait's alternative visa on arrival is documented only at Kuwait International Airport, so eligible travelers arriving overland or by sea are the ones who genuinely need to hold this permit before they travel.
- Delivery format
- An electronic entry permit linked to your passport, issued before you travel. There is no sticker or stamp placed in the passport beforehand. Airside transit that never clears immigration needs nothing.
- Good to know
- This is a single-entry permit. If your passport details change after you have submitted, you cannot edit the application yourself and will need to contact support before it is issued. Minors need their own passport and their own permit.
- Validity
- Valid for 30 days
- Entry
- Single entry
- Length of stay
- Stay up to 90 days in total
- Processing time
- Get it in as fast as 2 days

Do I need a Kuwait eVisa?
Most travelers require a visa to enter Kuwait. As of 2026, the eVisa system is available to: Citizens of 50+ eligible countries: Including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and most EU nations. GCC residents: Residents of Gulf Cooperation Council countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain) regardless of their nationality, provided they hold a residency permit valid for at least 6 months and work in specific professions. Citizens of GCC countries (e.g., Saudi or Emirati citizens) do not need a visa. If you are not from an eligible country or a GCC resident, you must apply for a traditional visa through a Kuwaiti embassy.
Do I need a visa for Kuwait if I have a layover?
If you remain in the airport transit area and do not pass through immigration, you generally do not need a visa. However, if your transit time is long and you wish to leave the airport or stay in a hotel outside the transit zone, you must obtain a valid eVisa or transit visa.
How will I receive the Kuwait eVisa?
You will receive your approved Kuwait eVisa as a PDF document via email. It will display your reference number and personal details. You must print a physical copy of this document to present to the immigration officer at the border. The officer will then issue you a final entry permit after verifying your documents. If you applied through iVisa, you can also find a copy of your approval PDF in your dashboard.
How long can I stay in Kuwait?
The Kuwait Tourist eVisa allows for a single entry and a stay of up to 90 days (3 months) from the date of entry. Once the eVisa is issued, you have 30 days to use it to enter the country. It is strictly for tourism and cannot be used for employment or residency purposes.
Can I extend my stay in Kuwait?
Extensions are generally not granted for the Tourist eVisa. If you overstay your 90-day limit, you will be required to pay a daily fine (typically 10 KWD per day) and may face legal complications or future travel bans. It is highly recommended to exit the country before your visa expires. However, in February 2026, the Kuwaiti government decided to give all visa holders an automatic 30-day extension due to regional circumstances. It's highly recommended to check if this still in place on the government website, before your visa expires.
What is the processing time for the Kuwait eVisa?
Government processing usually takes up to 3 business days (excluding Friday and Saturday, which is the weekend in Kuwait). With iVisa, you can get your Kuwait eVisa in as fast as 2 days.
Do children/minors need a Kuwait eVisa?
Yes. Every traveler, including infants and children, must have their own individual eVisa. You can use iVisa's "Add another person" feature to easily manage applications for the whole family in one session, saving time and effort.
What happens if my Kuwait eVisa application is rejected?
Common reasons for rejection include incomplete passport information, security reasons, blurred passport photos, or possessing an existing valid visa. If rejected, the government fee is non-refundable. iVisa minimizes this risk by having experts review your application for clerical errors and document clarity before it ever reaches the government.
