Nigerian visa policy for American citizens

US citizens need a visa to travel to Nigeria for tourism or business. The most common option is the Nigerian eVisa, which must be obtained before departure. iVisa offers two Nigerian entry documents for US travelers:

  • Nigerian eVisa: A required electronic visa that allows US citizens to enter Nigeria for tourism or family visits for up to 30 days.

  • Nigeria Landing Card: A mandatory entry declaration that travelers must complete before entering Nigeria. This is not a visa, but it is required in addition to the eVisa.

General Nigeria visa requirements for US travelers are:

  • US passport valid for the duration of the stay (6 months recommended)
  • Passport-style photo
  • Proof of accommodation in Nigeria
  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • Bank statements (last 6 months)
  • Supporting documents such as an invitation letter and host ID (if applicable)
  • Other supporting documents, depending on purpose or situation

"I would recommend this service to anyone who is applying for an e visa. The process using i visa service was quick and easy to follow and great support if needed. The turnaround for the approved visa was excellent. I thought it would take a day or two, but my application was dispositioned in less than two hours from submittal. Great job I visa"

While not always required, travelers may need to provide proof of onward or return travel to demonstrate that they intend to leave Nigeria before their visa expires.
