India Tourist eVisa requirements
The India Tourist eVisa (also called the e-Tourist Visa) allows foreign nationals to visit India for tourism, sightseeing, or visiting family and friends. Depending on your travel plans, you can choose from three validity periods: 30 days, 1 year, or 5 years. The 1-year and 5-year visas allow multiple entries into the country, while the 30-day visa allows up to two entries.
All foreign nationals entering India by air must also complete the mandatory India e-Arrival Card, which has officially replaced the old paper disembarkation forms. In addition, it's required to submit the Air Suvidha Self-Declaration Form (SDF), an online health form. When applying for an India eVisa or arrival card through iVisa, the health form is automatically included.

FANTASTIC, We started doing the application on our own ran in to problems and in "2"!!!! days you had it cleared up!!!
Application was very easy to follow & visa was delivered very quickly, will definitely be using iVisa again.
I had tried for weeks on the Indian government website for me and my 5 family members. It was so tedious and fraught with so many glitches, I gave up as I had to start over so many times. I-VISA is expensive but the data entry and user friendly nature made it so much easier. Only the made this 4-stars vs 5-stars. Expect to pay about $90/visa more than what the Indian government charges. It's worth the time if you have the money.
I had my Indian friend help me with the visa, she said it was so much better than anything she had used before, and was going to tell all her friends to use it in future! My visa was ready the day after I submitted it! Amazing!
After multiple attempts to to complete the official India e-portal visa application, I was well beyond frustrated. No matter how I resized and reshot the required photos, I could not get the Indian site to accept them. I thought I might have to cancel my trip to India for want of a visa. Worse still the site will not tell you the photo is unacceptable until after you have paid the visa fee. The I-Visa site was literally a trip-saver in this regard. It was simple to complete their forms and not particularly time-consuming. And while the site quoted a 4 day turn-around time for my visa, I actually got it in 2 days. True the fee is not cheap. But after you have wasted money and energy on the official India visa site, you will find that the cost is actually a bargain. After all, would you rather be planning your vacation/trip or wrangling the a recalcitrant website?
relatively easy to apply and they kept me in touch with what was happening with the process
Easy to fill up the form and some errors are corrected right away by your team.
It is a more expensive option but it is an uncomplicated and completely stress free process and for that reason I thoroughly recommend this service. Thank you.
This service to get an e-visa for India when very well and is effective
I have just discovered the service offered by ivisa. I am really impressed by the reactivity offered, 24 hours to get the visa !!! The way of filling application form is very friendly and easy to do. I am struggling to apply for a Paper Business Visa, after 3 weeks I can not go further, waiting for an appointement to go to the Consulate. Why ivisa cannot help people for business visa application?
India visa FAQs
Quick answers to the most common questions about the India Tourist eVisa.
Still have questions?
Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.
Do I need an eVisa or paper visa to travel to India for tourism?
Most travelers are eligible for the India Tourist eVisa. You can't use it if you hold a Pakistani passport, are of Pakistani origin, or have a parent or grandparent who was born in or permanently lived in Pakistan, or if you travel on a Diplomatic or Official passport. In those cases, apply for a regular paper visa through an Indian Embassy.
How long can I stay in India with a Tourist eVisa?
It depends on the visa type you choose. The 30-day eVisa allows multiple entries, but the 30 days is a single window that starts on your first arrival, not 30 days per entry, so leaving and re-entering doesn't extend your total stay. On the 1-year or 5-year eVisa, most nationalities can stay up to 90 days per visit, while citizens of the US, UK, Canada, and Japan can stay up to 180 days per visit. Either way, your total time in India can't exceed 180 days in a calendar year, no matter how many trips you take.
How will I receive the India Tourist eVisa?
Once approved, your eVisa will be sent to your email. While it is digitally linked to your passport, Indian law requires you to carry a physical printout for verification by immigration officers and hotels.
How long does India Tourist eVisa processing take?
Processing time depends on the speed you choose — each option and its timing are shown on this page and at checkout. We review your application before it's submitted, so the small mistakes that most often cause delays get caught early.
How can I check my India eVisa status?
Log into your iVisa account to see exactly where your application stands, and we'll email you as soon as it's approved. You can also check on the Indian government's eVisa portal under 'Check your Visa Status', which asks for the government application ID and your passport number. If you can't find that ID, our support team can help.
What happens if my India Tourist eVisa application is denied?
If your application is denied, you typically need to apply for a regular paper visa at an Indian Consulate. iVisa offers denial protection as an add-on to your application (optional).
What are the most common reasons for an India Tourist eVisa application to be denied?
The most common reasons are low-quality passport photos or typos in the passport number. iVisa flags any discrepancies before submission, to avoid the risk of rejection.
Can I extend my India Tourist eVisa?
No. All India e-Visas are non-extendable and non-convertible. To stay longer, you must leave the country and apply for a new visa.
Do I need an e-Arrival Card and health form for India if I have an eVisa?
Yes, you must complete a mandatory digital e-Arrival Card and the Air Suvidha health declaration before your trip. These are two separate requirements on top of an eVisa. The old paper disembarkation forms have been phased out; the new digital version is a strict requirement for all foreign passport holders. When applying for an Indian eVisa or arrival card through iVisa, we'll automatically submit the health declaration on your behalf, for your convenience.
Can I enter the country at any border with the India Tourist eVisa?
As of August 2026, the India eVisa is accepted at 88 designated gateways: 37 airports (including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru), 38 seaports, and 13 land borders. The official portal can take a few days to reflect the newest additions, so confirm your entry point there before you book.
