Our Indonesia visa application process

How to apply for your Indonesia visa with iVisa

1

Complete your online application

Answer a few simple questions, upload your documents, see when you’ll get your eVisa, and pay using secure methods. You can save your progress and come back anytime. Most people finish in under 10 minutes.

We’ll guide you through any unclear questions during the application process.

2

We review your application

The Indonesia visa system is known for being difficult to navigate – your photo must be the right size, and your passport scan must be clear.

Don’t worry – we review your whole application to catch anything that might cause delays. One of our experts checks everything for errors or missing information to make sure it’s ready to go. This review is quick but thorough.

3

We submit it for government processing

We’re not the Indonesian government, but we submit your application to them and are here for you along the way if there are any problems.

4

Get your Indonesia visa

Once your application is approved, we’ll notify you right away. Your approved travel document will be sent directly to your email.

💡Pro tip: If you’re arriving in Bali with a biometric passport, it’s best to apply for the eVOA before your trip. With a pre-approved eVOA, you can use the automated immigration gates, bypassing long lines and reducing questioning from officers.

Indonesia visa policy

Indonesia’s visa system is based on a traveler’s nationality, visit purpose, and length of stay. Some visitors can stay visa-free for short periods, while most others benefit from Indonesia’s expanding eVisa platform.

Citizens of ASEAN countries enjoy visa-free entry for up to 30 days for tourism or family visits, but this cannot be extended once inside Indonesia. For nearly 100 other nationalities, the electronic Visa on Arrival (eVOA) has made short-term travel far easier. Travelers apply online, often receiving approval within days. The eVOA allows a 30-day visit, with the option to extend once for an additional 30 days.

Indonesia uses a sponsor-based visa system for longer stays or more specialized travel purposes. These applications are submitted online by an Indonesian sponsor, whether a company, educational institution, family member, or other registered entity, through the official immigration portal.

Indonesia’s visa policies continue to evolve as the country expands tourism and foreign investment opportunities. Before making plans, travelers should always check Indonesia’s official immigration website or consult with an Indonesian consulate to confirm the latest requirements.

FAQs

Most visitors need an Indonesian visa (VoA, eVisa, or Embassy) based on nationality and purpose. Some citizens are visa-exempt for short stays under certain conditions.

Indonesia’s eVOA allows eligible travelers to apply online before arrival for tourism, business, or transit, typically granting a stay of up to 30 days.

Yes. Travelers with an eVOA can extend for an additional 30 days. Those with a Tourist Visit Visa (C1) can extend twice. Extensions must be processed before your current visa expires, via the immigration office.

All travelers must use a passport valid for at least six months beyond arrival, with at least two blank pages. Airlines and immigration enforce these rules strictly.

Overstaying carries serious consequences: daily fines (IDR 1 million/day, about US$65), potential detention, deportation, and future entry bans. In one reported case, a 5-day overstay cost nearly US$500.

Yes. Long-term visas like work permits (KITAS), student visas, social-cultural, investor, and retirement visas require online applications by an Indonesian sponsor through the immigration portal. Once approved, the visa authorization is sent digitally to an embassy or consulate for stamping.
