Japanese visa policy for Chinese citizens

Chinese citizens need a visa to visit Japan. Japan offers both traditional embassy-issued visas and an electronic visa (eVisa) system under specific conditions. Residents of the following countries or territories may apply online for a Japan eVisa, valid for a single entry and allowing a stay of up to 90 days: Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

In addition, certain other foreign nationals may also apply for single-entry eVisas through accredited agencies, including Chinese nationals residing in China, typically for short stays of 15 to 30 days, depending on the visa granted.

iVisa offers one entry document for Chinese travelers:

  • Japan Tourist Visa / eVisa (when eligible): A mandatory visa that allows Chinese citizens to enter Japan for short-term tourism purposes. It must be approved before travel, either through the eVisa system (if eligible) or through an embassy/authorized visa center.

General Japan visa requirements for Chinese travelers are:

  • A Chinese passport valid for the duration of stay
  • Completed visa application form
  • Passport-style photo
  • Confirmed onward or return travel ticket
  • Proof of accommodation and travel itinerary
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of the stay
  • Additional supporting documents if requested (employment proof, invitation letter, residency proof, etc.)
