What is the Mexico Tourist Card Land?
The Mexico Tourist Card is a necessary travel document to enter Mexico but it does not replace a visa. If your nationality requires a paper visa, immigration officers at the airport will ask for the visa as well as the Tourist Card. You must apply for the Mexico Tourist Card Air if you are planning on arriving in Mexico by air. And, you must apply for the Mexico Tourist Card Land if you plan to enter Mexico by crossing one of its many land borders.

Who is eligible to apply for the Mexico Tourist Card?
Everyone who is traveling to Mexico for tourism, to visit family, business, or other short-term purposes (up to 180 days) needs to get a Mexico Tourist Card, even if they don't need to obtain a Mexico Tourist Visa.
Travelers of all nationalities who have a valid visa or permanent residence for select countries like Canada or any country in the Schengen area, Japan, the United Kingdom, or the United States do not need a Mexican visa to be able to enter the country, they only need the Tourist Card.

How long is the Mexico Tourist Card valid for?
Both the Mexico Tourist Card Land and Air allow for a maximum stay of , but the immigration officers at the point of entry are who decide the number of days you are given.
You can stay in Mexico with this document for a maximum of 180 days, but usually, the immigration officer will give from 30 to 60 or 90 days of stay. You must leave the country before the Mexico Tourist Card expires.
This travel document is a single entry card. That means that you need to stay in Mexico during the valid time period you’re allowed. You can not enter and live the country several times, only once.
Required documents to apply for the Mexico Tourist Card Online

Make sure that the Mexican officials stamp your tourist card when you enter the country.

It is recommended you write down your FMM (Forma Migratoria Múltiple/tourist card in English) number in case it is lost or stolen.

Do I need a Mexico Tourist Card if I’m transiting through Mexico?
You don’t need this travel document to transit through Mexico if you:
- Stay in the Mexican airport between flights
- Leave the country directly within 24 hours of arriving.
This means that similar to the case with a Mexico visa, passengers do not require a tourist visa or FMM if their journey meets the above criteria.

Mexico Tourist Card extensions
If you wish to extend your stay you need to go to any INM (National Institute of Immigration) office to request an extension of your Mexico tourist card. You need to have with you your valid passport and the Mexico Tourist Visa or Mexico Tourist Card you filled out. You will also need to prove that you can finance your stay and you will have to pay a fee to extend the visa or card.
Usually, is hard to get an extension of your card but if the immigration officer didn’t grant you a full 180 days stay when you arrived in Mexico you might try to extend your stay up to 180.
If you want to stay for longer than 180 days, we advise you to apply for a Mexico Temporary Resident Visa.
Do minors need to apply for the Mexico Tourist Card?
All children need to have a Tourist Card (and therefore a passport or passport card). If the applicant is a minor, the parents or legal guardians have to sign the application form.
How does the Mexico Tourist Card look like?
The Mexican immigration authority will send you two (2) pages. Make sure you do not cut or alter them in any way as this may invalidate them.

Testing
There are no COVID-19 test requirements in Mexico.
Vaccine
COVID vaccination passports or certificates are no longer mandatory to enter Mexico. Since information may change quickly, we advise you to follow up on the latest Mexico travel updates and/or contact your local embassy.
Quarantine
There are no quarantine requirements for Mexico.

What happens if I lose my Tourist Card while in Mexico?
Two possible things can happen if you lose your Mexico Tourist Card:

If you obtained your Tourist Card online, you can print a new form. Please be aware that you may need to pay a fine of up to USD 60, depending on the Immigration Authorities.

If you lost a "handwritten" Tourist Card, you must make an appointment with an Immigration Office to get a new form. Please be aware that you may need to pay a fine of up to USD 60 to replace it.
My passport is NOT from an Eligible Country, but I am a legal resident of an Eligible Country. Can I apply for the Tourist Card online?
