The Netherlands Schengen visa allows individuals to travel to the Netherlands and all other Schengen countries for a short stay.

However, with a Schengen visa for the Netherlands, you may not:

Access public funds in the Netherlands or any other Schengen country

Undertake any illegal activities during your stay in the Netherlands or any other Schengen country
Who requires a Netherlands Schengen Visa?
Nationals from countries that aren't on the visa-waiver list must apply for this visa to visit the country and the rest of the Schengen Zone.
This applies to over 100 nationalities.
Visa-exempt: Who doesn't need to apply for a Netherlands Schengen Visa?
Several nationalities of countries have the privilege of entering the Schengen Zone visa-free, such as European residents and nationals of Schengen member states.
Additionally, passport holders from the following countries can visit the Schengen zone without a visa:
- United States
- United Kingdom
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Canada
Do minors have to apply for the Netherlands Schengen Visa?
Minors traveling to the Netherlands or any other Schengen country must also apply for a Netherlands Schengen Visa.
In addition to the standard application requirements, they must provide a notarized consent form signed by the parents or legal guardians, and copies of their birth certificates.

The Netherlands Schengen Visa allows a stay of up to 90 days per entry within every 180 days.
Can I extend my Netherlands Schengen Visa?
To request an extension of your visa, you must demonstrate that unforeseen circumstances, such as humanitarian considerations, a medical emergency or significant personal matters.

Netherlands Schengen Visa: Document requirements
To complete the Netherlands Schengen Visa application, you’ll need to provide the following documents:

A completed Netherlands Schengen Visa application form

Valid passport issued within the last ten years, with at least two blank pages and a validity of at least 6 months

2 passport photos taken in the last 6 months

Proof of travel itinerary including documents proving your visit is for tourist purposes and hotel reservation(s) or an invitation letter from your host

Bank statements of the last three months

Health insurance for travel covering hospitalizations, emergencies, urgent treatments, and healthcare, death, or repatriation in the Schengen area of at least €30,000
All submitted documents must be presented in (or translated to) Dutch, English, French, or Spanish.
Costs and processing times of the Netherlands Schengen Visa application
The government visa fee is about US$85 and the process can take up to 45 days from the interview date.
However, due to limited appointment slots, we recommend applying at least 2 months in advance to avoid issues.

What are the differences between the Netherlands Schengen Visa and ETIAS?
The European Travel Information and Authorization System/ETIAS is a travel authorization set for implementation in 2025.
ETIAS is meant for travelers who qualify for visa-free entry and don’t require a Schengen Visa.
When should I apply for the Netherlands Schengen Visa?
The Netherlands Schengen Visa application can take up to 45 days from the interview date. However, appointment slots can be limited. For that reason, we recommend you apply 2 months in advance to avoid any delays.
If you are traveling by sea, or you are a sailor, we advise you to apply 3 months in advance.
